I stretched the rules a bit and put people who aren't necessarily from Washington, but who are generally associated with the state.

I'm hesitant to do this, but I believe New York is still the most populated of the thirteen original colonies. I'm not going to number it but they have

Lauren Bacall
Pat Benatar
Humphrey Bogart
James Cagney
Aaron Copland
Robert DeNiro
Lady Gaga
Art Garfunkel
Lou Gehrig
George Gershwin
Rita Hayworth
John Jay
Billy Joel
Burt Lancaster
Cyndi Lauper
The Marx Brothers
Ingrid Michaelson
John D. Rockefeller
Norman Rockwell
Ray Romano
The Roosevelts
Jonas Salk
Martin Scorsese
Rod Serling
Sonia Sotomayor
Barbara Stanwyck
Grover Washington, Jr.
Mae West
Edith Wharton
E. B. White

I'd think Virginia and Pennsylvania have also had many famous people due to their size and historic importance. Possibly their famous people are less dominated by one city. I may look it up later.

Name some big people from your state!
Does this mean that the person just has to have the state on their birth certificate? Because Taylor Swift grew up in TN....
Also, do they have to be living?
Anyway:
Grace Kelly
Bradley Cooper
Seth Green
Richard Gere
Kevin Bacon
Bill Cosby
Andy Warhol
N.C. Wyeth
Louisa May Alcott
Pearl S. Buck
Rachel Carson
Milton Hershey
Christina Aguilera
George Benson
Boys 2 Men
Jackie Evancho
Jill Scott

New York and California tied for first place - Obviously considering the entertainment industry is big in both states.

I don't know; I guess Texas or Florida can duke it out for second.

Being from, and being born in are not one in the same. The funny thing is that these people are well known for being from other places. Spike Lee - Die Hard Knicks Fan from Brooklyn (and making a movie called Crooklyn), Kanye West from Chicago (making a song called Chi City), and John Mayer reference Connecticut from time to time (John Mayer*SUPPORT FOR HAITI* | John Mayer Hecho En Connecticut T-Shirt*|*Shop the John Mayer Official Store)
