Wow, this post really made me think.

I guess you're right, no matter how many ways SF edges out Philly, regardless of in what way it does... Philly will always win, because it will always have more people who wangst about how it doesn't get enough respect.

Philly also has Temple, Drexel, University of the Arts, St. Josephs, and many more....

On the flip-side Stanford rates very highly, second only to Penn in this list. Philly wins the comparison fairly easily.

Vitually all rankings I've seen have Stanford equal to (US News) or ahead of (ARWU) Penn.

Census figures from 2009 show that only 23 percent of Philadelphians have at least a bachelor's degree. That's far below cities like San Francisco and Boston, where more than half the residents have undergraduate diplomas.

Your slobber is as bad as the other

Philly has major issues with poverty and education among this segment.

The Temple program is actually a very good one and something to be admired not to be laughed at. Temple in the heart of North Philly is investing 1.5 billion into the campus and adding more than 14K students on campus over a ten year time period. Temple is also is top 40/50 research school in the country and building out this capacity

Also this statistic can be be misleading as when normalized to the non poverty population Philly's rate and rate of the metro is well in normal ranges.

Lastly among the DT population Philly is # 3 in the US for % with a college degree (ahead of SF), number 2 in the country among those with a masters, and number one in the country among those with post graduate degrees.
