I don't think I'm talking s*** about SF at all. In fact, you said the very same thing I said.
Now how is what you said different from what I said?
Told ya. I always go with Bay Area sources. I have plenty more if you want it.
He described the Mission; you were talking about the whole of SF.
What's more, you don't seem to be able to tell the difference between a 20-year old hipster who smells like B.O. and is wearing a dirty American Aparrel hoodie, fake bifocals, and skinny low-ride jeans, or a 30-year old yuppie who went to NYU and parks their Audi at Whole Foods to get quinoa and yerba mate, versus someone who's white and has a normal job and happens to live in San Francisco.
originally posted by bajanyankee so mexicans do not constitute a large percentage of the city's foreign-born population?
But that wasn't really my point anyway. Philadelphia has a very different composition than san francisco. Most philadelphians have been in the city for generations. There isn't a large, transient yuppie class that has virtually no connection to the city at large (dc being a very good example). it's probably the largest american city with a substantial, white working-class population. And in that regard, the city is very unique. That's why i always call it a "throwback" city for better or worse. It has an "old school" flavor to it that's not found in many other places.
is philadelphia more closed than other cities? I'd say yes. And there's a definite downside to that. But the upside is that the city has a very distinct personality that's been largely unaltered over the years. That's what i love about it
...you are so out of touch with the rest of America, it's not even funny.
Aren't you guys tired yet of this same old argument? Who really cares but a few homers? They are both very urban cities and to say one is more urban than another is strictly a subjective opinion..They are both world class cities and it should be left at that. There's really no way of telling which city is more urban since the word "urban" is completely subjective. You guys have argued 109 pages and probably counting at this point. Have any of you changed your mind? This is such a juvenile question. I dunno, I just don't get the relativity of it all. 109 pages, you would think we were discussing cancer research or something. My god people-let it go. Who really cares in the end? Small rant over.. Carry on.

And you're oddly enough in touch with the rest of the American population living in Beverly Hills and San Francisco. Yep, that's the heart of America.
Yep I'm pretty damn awesome.
I don't need to justify my life to you in any way, shape, or form, but... I was raised on or around military bases all over the US. I've also lived in NYC, Boston, and Seattle... I've been to most major US cities... spent large swaths of my childhood living in the country... what about you?

Really Name a city without a White Working class, because thats the Majority (or atleast the pularity) of America.
