Taking down the electrical lines, paving over and/or removing many of the tracks, and then selling most of the cars to another city for next to nothing. Do those really sound like the actions of an agency with a legit expansion plan, or one who was trying to throw short term demolition patronage jobs to someone, make a quick buck, and with no plan at all for how to manage it's assets?
The 56 is mostly there , 6 is gone , 50 is coming back. The 56 , and 23 will come back by 2022 , as in the Septa budget. The City and DPRA have plans to do the expansions.....Septa doesn't , but Septa will have to operate the City Trolleys.... The City is the only one seeking PPP's and trying upgrade its infastrature... But to be fair Septa over the past few years has changed , restoring and upgrading the current Trolley and Subway system.....it seems to be turning around...

You are very optimistic. I hope you're right about that.
I'm just saying they definitely did scrap and squander a lot of their streetcar stock and infrastructure which was still in use as late as the late 80's (all the stuff that got scrapped in the 50's I'll chalk up as a casualty of the era).

The pictures in post #663 by 18Montclair are hilarious. One of the fans is holding a poster stating "HIPPY TRASH" and then another says "We're Sorry...HIPPIE". I am laughing so hard at both of them. I could see myself in Citizens Bank Park holding up a similar poster. GO PHILLIES!!!

OK I was curious and I looked it up. Of the historic cars operating on the F-Line, the majority - 24 of 41 are PCC cars. Of the 24 PCC cars, 13 were purchased from Philadelphia, and 11 were purchased from Newark.

So technically 'most' of the PCC cars, which make up the majority of the F-Line fleet, ARE in fact from Philadelphia (even though they have repaint jobs that are tributes to trolleys around the country), although most of the cars on the F-Line overall are not from Philadelphia (not that anyone claimed that).

The PCC: A streetcar named success - Market Street Railway
Oh wait, I did say "most of the cars on the F-line" up there. My bad, I take it back. Still, interesting factoids connecting the 2 cities.

Philly is a real mess! It's not urban. It's mumbo jumbo and run down. San Francisco is a real nice, urban city with character.
