ESPN actually recorded a game between the Sabres and Flyers that said "0" people attended the game.

PALE PWNR
Because ESPN has it recorded that "0" people went to the Buffalo @ Flyers game on the 27th. When you average out all those attendances above with 0 as the Buffalo game you get 16278.5. Lol. Same reason why Buffalos away capacity is so low.
Even with us having 0 people go to a game that 19000+ attended we still have a higher home average than 6 other teams
If you're going to point out the Flyers being at 98% for two years then I guess it's only fair that I point out the beloved Patriots were only at 97% this year. 16th in attendance out of 32 NFL teams.
Ut oh. I mean, it's the Patriots! They should at least be 100%, right?!
I'm sorry. I've clearly hurt your feelings. I take it all back. Philadelphia is the best sports city on the planet.
My only point here is Boston isn't, as many claim it to be.
I'm not a Philly sports fan, but this is a Philadelphia vs. Boston thread and the discussion is sports, so there you go.
At the least, Philly and Boston are even on the sports front, and at best, the edge goes to Philadelphia for still supporting their teams when they don't win.
Here you have a team with 0 Super Bowls that ranks higher than a modern dynasty with 4 Super Bowls (they both sell out, but it's still worth noting the discrepancies).
Boston's championship runs the last 16 years give the indication that it's "the best" sports town, but not when you dig a little deeper. The Flyers and Eagles outdraw the Bruins and Patriots. The Phillies led the MLB in attendance for ~5 years and finished ~5th for a number of years (MLB teams don't usually average 100% as opposed to NBA, NFL and NHL) and the Sixers are an obvious outlier because they're historically bad.
I do think that when the Sixers become a good team again, Philadelphia will lead the NBA in attendance just like the Bruins did when they started winning again.
I think what we see here is that the Red Sox, Flyers and Eagles sell out win or lose, and the other teams go up and down depending on the success of the team (Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, Phillies, Sixers).
Yes, I would absolutely agree that both cities are among the top sports towns, but like I have shown, there is more to being a great sports town than winning titles.
People think Boston is the best because we live in the social media age and it's impossible to escape a Boston team winning a championship annually. It's tough to get a Boston team out of the sports limelight. I do think that once Ortiz retires, Julien/Chara are gone, and Brady are gone, that Boston sports will go back down to pre-2000 support levels.

Philly and Boston have played second fiddle to NYC for a long time and some would argue that DC is now number 2 in the Northeast, and they might be right. The NE USA has an amazing corridor of truly first class cities all of which have seen ups and downs. Boston is doing amazingly well right now, even attracting the world HQ of behemoth GE, Inc and it has new buildings, high and low going up virtually everywhere. If it were anyplace else in the US and most places in the world it would be considered a juggernaut. Philly has emerged from a long decline and has a couple of decades of solid growth to show now. Either would be the Alpha city in plenty of countries.
Which is better is a subjective opinion. Both are among the best in the US and are certainly world class.
Is there a reason you conveniently ignored when the Phillies led the MLB in attendance in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and were top 5 the other years?
The Phils were 1st in the NL East and WS contenders from 2009-2011. Their attendance declined with their record from 2012 onward. They were 2nd in attendance in 2012, they were 5th in 2013, 15th in 2014 and 26th in 2015. If they keep sucking they might just fill that last place slot this year.

You're also aware that Citizens Bank Park has 7,000 more seats than Fenway does?
And yet the last 2 years, Boston has sold more total tickets than Philly despite this. The Sox also sell the most expensive tickets in the league. Fenway sold 2.8 million tickets last year. The Phils sold 1.8 million. Both the Sox and Phils finished last place as well.

Because they market a decrepit and outdated sports facility called Fenway Park that pales in comparison in amenities to almost every other ballpark.
Fenway is not Yankee Stadium. There is not a history of winning there. It's only a novelty because it's one of two 100 year old stadiums left. That's the draw.
Anyway, as I stated in previous posts, the Eagles, Flyers and Red Sox are the only teams that are followed win or lose as proven by attendance figures.
The Celtics, Patriots, Bruins, Phillies and Sixers all have something in common. When the team does well, they sell, when they suck, they don't.
That is two Philadelphia teams and one Boston team.
When Ortiz is gone, Julien and Chara are gone, and Brady is gone, Boston attendance figures should go back to pre-2000 levels. Admittedly, it's been a hell of a run for Boston. But that run still doesn't mean Boston is the best sports town.
I really don't think there is a single best sports town. NYC, Philly, Boston, Chicago, LA, SF, Detroit, Pittsburgh etc. are all very strong.
Something of note. Boston has 9 titles in 15 years. LA has 8 titles in 15 years. Very close.
Nobody ever talks about LA, and the Kings and Ducks have a legit shot at the Cup this year, so LA could actually tie Boston.
