DC, Atlanta - Due mostly to work related relocations.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City - Due mostly to work relocations and dream chasing.
I understand DC...but why Atlanta? I knew it had some, but several people are acting like it is very high there. I did not think it would crack the top 10. Is there something there or something about it that makes people come and go? I mean I understand Las Vegas or Orlando being like that, but just trying to figure out why for Atlanta.
On DC... do you guys think it has hurt DC in developing a more organic culture like the other East Coast cities because a lot of people know they might only be there for a bit, so don't invest in the community?
Washington DC is the most transient city in the United States. Ironically, there are 536 people who don't belong there.
The first part of your statement is a common misconception that isn't true: in fact, over half of DC's population was either born in the city or in the adjacent suburbs. There's actually a rather sizeable, entrenched "local" population in DC.

Very true. People should realize there are massive exceptions to the "DC is transient" mantra.
The fact is that DC area has very significant numbers of both local and transient people. That gets it right.
I picked off 15 cities, there were already 2 from Florida which I thought represented enough or an observation one could grab if Orlando for instance is also quite high. There are other cities off the list, but you can never make everybody happy. Why not contribute to the discussion instead of a one liner complaint? Or if you feel so strongly about it, you can start your own poll.
I remember reading that Seattle has something huge, like about 50% of the new residents over the past 20 years are transplants.
