I've been to Beverly Hills and the Upper East Side of Manhattan many times. And I know that Beverly Hills is much closer to top movie studios and theme parks than the Upper East Side of Manhattan is.
And the UES is closer to more ghetto areas such as Fort Apache, but I wouldn't say that that's a good comparison to disparage the UES like you have done to BH with your comment.
Its pretty even in my opinion as these 2 areas are extremely desirable but in different ways yet ironically attract the exact same uber upscale, class conscious demographic.
Also, isnt most of the upscale shopping on Fifth Avenue below E.59th?
In the which case I definitely think BH is better for shopping within its borders.

You forget Madison Avenue, that's on the UES. I actually like Madison Avenue better than 5th Avenue. Madison Avenue does have a bit more upscale stores than Rodeo Drive and is the #2 most expensive retail strip in the US.
I'll take Beverly Hills. Clean, lush vegetation and beautiful palm trees. Great stores and restaurants, not just highend. Nice parks, clean streets and no potholes. Plus the great weather is a plus.

You're killing me that's so witty , but you can take this to the bank "there's most likely more people from Manhattan" in the theme parks and movie studios than BH's folks.....
