What are some states with easy access to beautiful natural scenery?

Like forests, gardens, and rivers.

Salt Lake City-The Mountains are right in you're face..they're hard to miss.
Colorado Springs-Same with SLC, but they have nice trails, and really nice park System.
Denver-Although people like to argue that all denver has are mountains, thats not true. There are lakes, trails, Nice parks..etc. Not to mention the access to the Mts.
New York City-Nice park system! From what i've seen so far, i LOVE central park!!! And the ocean is nice too (i bet the boating is great)
Los Angeles-When people say you can go to the beach and skii in one day..they actually mean it. Its quite cool!
Seattle-You go the ocean, you got the mountains, the lakes..etc.
Portland-^The same!
Minneapolis/St.Paul-Lakes Lakes Lake! Great boating, fishing..etc. There are also great/nice trails. People think to much about the weather...most months its really nice to enjoy outdoor activity.

For state topography, California is tough to beat. We're talking about a place that features Yosemite Park, Mount Whitney, the Pacific Coast, and Death Valley in its borders.

For city topography, gotta be LA. Portland is awesome too.

Well I currently live in S Florida and there aren't any forests or rivers here. But plenty of beaches.

I mean states with the most diversity.

As major cities go, Seattle.

It's situated on Puget Sound to the west, Lake Washington to the east, The Cascade Mountains are nearby to the east and the Olympic Mountains a short ferry ride to the west, And bear in mind there are 3 National Parks within 60 miles as the crow flies.

WA, CA, OR, and AK are all teeming with natural splendor. Throw in HI for good measure.

The west coastal states CA/WA/OR top to bottom are pretty tough to beat for topographic diversity, though the NE cities aren't that far behind, TX, NC, VA are also good. FL and HI are pretty good but they are more of a one trick pony, yet offer things the other states really don't. While we are at it, the worst IMO would be Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, most of IL, IN and Northern MO. Sure it's 'nature', but it's pretty BLAH, no offense.

First and foremost, Hawaii. Then.. Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Maine, Washington. But it's a matter of personal preference, yes?

"Like forests, gardens, and rivers." - In Rhode Island, all those things are very close. Minutes from the city. RI even has a miniature desert and a miniature gorge. Beautiful terrain.
