Not even a contest. Downtown Denver blows away downtown San Jose. This is not even a contest. San Jose is much more suburban. The downtown is not unpleasant, it's actually quite nice, well maintained, and has some good restaurants. But it has nothing that downtown Denver does not have, plus Denver has the Pepsi center and Coors Field. SA Field @ Mile High is directly across the highway from downtown as well, adding a world class venue for sports, concerts, etc.
Denver in a landslide here.
