The answer is simple...better shopping. More upscale shopping i believe. I mean, that is what a mall is for..right? And I have never been to the WEM before. I'm sure all those attractions are cool to.
LOL. If you've never been to WEM, what makes you think it has worse shopping or less upscale shopping than MoA? Be specific though, and back up your statement with some facts. What "upscale" stores specifically does MoA have that WEM doesn't. I don't see how you can make a comparison if you haven't been to both. I have been to both, and I didn't see MoA as an "upscale" mall. It seemed to have the same selection of stores you find in any mall, just more of them.If found the shopping in West Edmonton Mall to be better than MoA simply due to the greater numbers of stores alone. Granted, I only went to MoA once. Where are all these "upscale" retailers in MoA that WEM doesn't have? Were they near the entertainment area with Hooters and the other bars? I sure didn't see them? Are you talking about stores like Tiffany, Cartier, Hugo Boss, etc.?

You're telling me to back my stuff up? Tell me how WEM is more widely know than the MoA? And no, i have't been to WEM. Like you said before, you haven't been to either in quite a while, so how do you know things haven't changed? I probably shouldn't have added the statement about more Upscale shopping, but there has to be a reason more people go to MoA than WEM. And i'm going to take a guess and say its because of the shopping options (can't be sure though).

Honnestly if you came back to MoA today and go to the South Avenue Food Court you will be really impressed. I can't find a picture anywhere on the web but its basically a large windy hall way with no bright lights the lights are really dimmed in the hallway like in a restaurant setting a very calm mood and it has many great restaurants not nasty fast food but real resturants like Rainforest Cafe, Famous Daves and Cadillac Ranch just to name a few.
Christ almighty. Why couldn't you just post a link to the website instead of copying and pasting the entire list of stores here. Just looking at that list though, those are almost all stores you can find in other suburban malls. There's almost nothing I see there that is particularly high-end. It's certainly no more high-end than WEM.

I don't see myself as a high end shopper by any means, but it's majority mid to low end and as far as the total number, look at how many on the list are two of the same store.

At least I have been to both. As for size, I can see by just looking at Mall of America's website that it has had no major expansions (it appears no expansions at all) since I've been there. And I can see what stores are there on the website too. You claimed MoA has "better", more "upscale" shopping than WEM. I didn't claim WEM had "better" or more "upscale" shopping than MoA. WEM just has way, way, way more stores. Now if you've never been to WEM, what are you basing your statement that is has less "upscale" shopping than MoA on? You must be basing it on something. Maybe you perused the WEM website and saw that it was missing most of the "upscale" stores that MoA has. But you didn't even claim that. As far as I know, you have no idea what kind of stores WEM has (since you haven't even claimed to), thus you have no basis for comparison. So your claim that MoA has more upscale shopping seems to be based on nothing. At least be specific and tell us what "upscale" stores MoA has that WEM doesn't. YOU brought up the "upscle" shopping comparison, not me. The onus of proof is on you.

Yes, and we've been over this. The metro area has three times the population of metro Edmonton. The number of people within a day's drive of MoA is several times larger than the number of people within a day's drive of WEM. It simply has a market many times larger to draw from. Both malls draw some people from overseas, but that is a small fraction of the total number of visitors. Most people to both malls are driving there. And there are many times more people within driving distance to Minneapolis than there are to Edmonton. This new mall in New Jersey will probably draw way more people than MoA, even if it's smaller, less upscale, and has less entertainment than MoA. It's simply because of the population base.

I certainly didn't see all these supposed high-end stores at Mall of America when I was there 10 years ago, and looking at that list, I still don't see them. To me, "upscale" stores are stores like Prada, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., Escada, Cartier, Cole Haan, Vera Wang, and Lacoste.
Im sher WEM is really cool but i dont care much for its design. I think the MOA is almost perfectly laid out.
I will agree with you there. MoA is much more compact. And I'm assuming if you want to walk across the mall on the first floor you can just cut through the amusement park. WEM takes an eternity to walk from one end to the other. You can see a map of WEM here:West Edmonton Mall
