People act like Dallas has great winter weather. It doesn't. Its milder than Chicago, but still cold, often rainy, and even at times quite icy. And unlike Chicago, when it snows or ices, the city shuts down. Commerce grinds to a halt. You're likely to get stuck on the highways. In Chicago you can use the winter to your advantage: take a day trip to WI to go skiing, do some cross country skiing in the parks, take the kids sledding, build a snow for with the kids, etc.

Summers in Chicago are far more livable and much more comfortable. That's when the kids are out of school, too. Do you really feel like taking them to a park when its 95 degrees with massive humidity in Dallas, and having to contend with the bugs and snakes? Or would you prefer a drier, 83 degree day in Chicago to stroll the lakefront?

If youre into public transporation, shopping, etc, Chicago is much more dynamic than Dallas. Both have basically the same amenities, but Chicago's are in a nicer setting, and much, much, much more consolidated.

Meh. Dallas winters are preferable to most compared to Chicago. While it can have cold rainy days. Most days it is not. It is in the 50-70s many if not most days in the Winter and cold snaps do not last long in dallas. Chicago will be see those days until March maybe.

On the flipside, Chicago summers are preferable to most compared to Dallas. Chicago summers can have their days when it gets hot and humid but most of the summer is pleasant and comfortbale.

2) in Dallas a) sales tax lower, parking cheaper--sushi cheaper, restaurants cheaper, income tax lower, better public schools, housing waaaaay cheaper, gas is ridiculously cheaper
some retail products are cheaper due to lower cost of doing business
drinks are waaay cheaper---i laugh at bar tabs in dallas compared to chicago and i am thankful at the same time
3) The low price you pay for the great quality of life you get in a progressive city like dallas, makes it tough to leave after you get settled in.
4) The weather is generally pretty nice year round except that the summers are brutal, but you can play gold all day in Dallas
5) once your here, you'll adjust and love it... plus Dallas economy and housing are holding up just fine
6) You can play golf 12 months a year sometimes; and NO ugly and gloomy, grimy snow covered streets for months at a time like you have it in Chicago.
7 like the saying goes "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could"
8) A pay check goes much further in Dallas than in Chicago
9) Dallas suburbs are way, way nicer, with bigger houses and more modern than in Chicago
10) Public health care is more affordable for an average citizen in Dallas and usually guaranteed for everyone. Source: city's official website,
11) Low unemployment rate In Dallas indicates better career opportunities and economic growth. In Chicago unemployment is twice Dallas.
Lots of bold claims, and also lots of bold lies. Are you saying Chicago suburbs like Lake Forest, Winnetka, Evanston, Hinsdale, St. Charles, Geneva, Oak Brook, Wheaton, Kenilworth, Barrington, Evanston, etc, etc, etc are crappy? Chicago's best suburbs can compete with the best Dallas has to offer. The difference here is that Chicago has far more suburbs, and many of them are super elite. Dallas also has a bunch of crap suburbs, too, so whats your point? Oh yeah, you don't have one. Bravo!

And on a truly hot and sunny day in Chicago, there are the beaches waiting for you.

Chicago beats every city in Texas by a landslide. The only thing Dallas has over Chicago would be that its more affordable and better winters.

Better winters, but worse summers.

Why are we comparing the 3rd largest city to the 9th largest city?

Because it's a relocation thread and there's no one-size fits all kind of city anywhere in the world.

Plus, if you're going by metropolitan areas, it's the third largest versus the fourth largest. The Metroplex has become massive in recent decades.

It just depends on your frame of reference. If you are used to a typical Northeast or Midwest winter, Chicago won't be much different (a few more cold spells than NYC and less than Minneapolis) than other big cities. On average, you're going to get your typical 30s-low 40s weather in December, Jan, and Feb. People are also ignoring how great Autumn is in Chicago too. The weather is often perfect in September (high 70s) and October (60s) and many times into November.

Here was the weather in November for 2016...2015 was pretty similar...but alas, you'll get people on here who say it starts to snow on September 1st in Chicago...

Chicago has a lot of people and a lot of crimes. It is a crappy cold and expensive place compared to a cleaner and more prosperous city like Dallas. Dallas is more business friendly, the best city of the USA for Jobs. The cost of living - better in Dallas and No state taxes is Dallas. In a few words you really earn more in Dallas even if in some cases your paycheck may look bigger in Chitown. Yes the suburbs of Dallas are way better than Chicago. In Chicago where so many cities offer old crappy houses. Yes the suburbs of Dallas are bigger and better, because in Illinois you have Chicago as a large city and the rest are many not so populated cities. The roads and bridges in Chicago are crappy and the city is bankrupt. The shopping is way better in Dallas and Classier restaurants in Dallas. At least more restaurants per Capita than in Chicago. The Highways of Dallas would put the ones in Chicago to shame. The houses in DFW are bigger, better more modern. There are more billionaires in Dallas. The cities of Texas are energetically richer than in Chicago. Quit messing with Texas!!! All Chicago has - is a bunch of worthless skyscrapers, other than that Dallas all Day.

DFW is the fourth largest metroplex and it is booming. People are nicer in Dallas and better school system in Dallas. If you want to prosper than you move to Dallas - and if you want to be killed Chicago. A lot of ghettos areas in Chicago.

Pretty much, these days if you are not living in Texas you are probably struggling and relying on credit cards LOL. Why are we comparing a bankrupt and full of crimes City with Dallas, Texas? Get a life!!!
