Wow that's crazy. It's amazing how much population Detriot has loss. I guess D.C. may pass Detriot too in population. It has already passed Baltimore and is either tied or ahead of Boston now. By the 2020 census, there will probably be a sizable gap between the cities.

I wonder in the 70s ir anyone thought Detriot could drop out of the top 25 in 50 years? Boston, DC, Seattle, Nashville, El Paso, Memphis, Denver, and maybe Louisville will likely pass detriot by 2020, making Detriot #26 or #27

Not at all. It's the only city that was in the top 5 in 1970 to not be in the top 5 now.
Detroit has the rare problem of "Shrinking Pains" right now. It's going to be tough for Detroiters who grew up in a top 5/top 10 major city to realize that Detroit's simply no longer a major city, and thus all of the major city amenities they're accustomed to will gradually disappear. While there are a few things happening downtown, the city/state is simply imposing more austerity measures on the folks in Detroit's neighborhoods in a futile attempt to avoid an inevitable Chapter 9 Bankruptcy proceeding, which only encourages MORE people to flee the city.
Do note, the poll below only focuses on crime (Detroit has tons of other problems besides crime).

It didn't pass Baltimore. Estimates have proven unreliable.

You are going to have to come to grips with reality. Do you really beleive with all the multi-family units coming online in D.C. every year and filling up that D.C. has not passed Baltimore? A better question is how much do you think D.C. has added in the last two years and how much do you think D.C. will add over the next couple years? D.C. is adding just as many new units as population growth.

Seeing as how it has taken D.C. 10 years to gain 29k people to put DC's population at 601k, do you really think DC has gained neary 20k people in just two??? Remember back in 2009, when Boston supposedly had 645k people, but when the census numbers came out, Boston was only at 617k? Well, if you don't, you're basically doing the same thing they did, which is touting grossly exaggerated numbers.

Or Atlanta touting 540,000, or Detriot at 850,000, but a later in the decade they become less accurate but 100-150k is 10-15k a year off.

Baltimore's 2010 Census Population - 620,961
Washington D.C. 2010 Census Population - 617,996.
At the rate D.C. is growing and Baltimore is shrinking, it's not inconceivable that D.C. has surpassed Baltimore in population since 2010.
It's also very plausible that D.C. could surpass Detroit in the next few years given the rate it's shrinking (D.C.'s metro area surpassed Detroit's metro area long ago).

But its not official. Doesn't matter what you say. Just like they "estimated" Phoenix passing Philadelphia in population. They were so hype saying its the 5th biggest city and all. And when them census numbers came in, they were quite quiet. Phoenix NEVER was bigger then Philly, but estimates said so, but official numbers said otherwise... See where im trying to get?
