LOL, are Denver and Chicago not the same color in this map?
Judging by the links grapico posted, Chicago has some pretty wild swings too. 39 one day and 68 two days later? That's Denveresque.
Either way, I like the winters here. I like that it's cold and there's 6 inches of snow sitting outside right now. That's what December is supposed to be like. Chicago's winters look like they'd suit my palate as well.
Alacran, is there something you're trying to prove here? Is somebody trying to drag you to Denver kicking and screaming? Is there something you have against Denver? I mean, you never have to come here unless you want to, right?
When I first moved here, I met a young woman from Columbus, OH. It was a cold and snowy day, and I had asked her what she thought of the winters here. She said that they were 10X better here than Columbus. I was shocked, because we get twice the snow they do, but then she explained that the lack of sun, the slower melting snow, and the more constant cold made it so. Chicago has harsher winters than Columbus, right?
Now, I've never personally spent an entire winter in the Midwest, or anywhere else besides here or a couple of different places in CA (where I've spent the other 80% of my winters), but even when it's bitterly cold or snowing feet, it's not that bad, and I know that it'll be over in 2-3 days max.
To be fair, I believe the NWS counts low temps, and Denver has higher daily temperature variation. So it can be cold in the morning but warm by midday.
I like winter. I like Denver. Denver's winter isn't really what I'd call good, but it isn't worse than Chicago either.
Half the time? No. Maybe colder than Chicago like 30% of the time.
Which has milder winters? Lets see, by your logic Chicago will hold steady at 30 (it won't) and Denver will spike in the 70's. Is 30 degrees warmer than 70? What am I missing?
Another reason Denver feels milder is the dryness and altitude 40 here feels like 60 in Chicago...the sun is much more intense here. The sun shines almost endlessly. Today it was 15 yet sunny..I suppose the OP has absolutely no concept of this fact. You can literally walk around in short sleeves and shorts when it's 45-55 here midday..try doing that in Chicago..you will never win this arguement. We have Chicago May weather mid- winter on a regular basis. Freezing temps here feel entirely different than windly lake effect weather. I have yet to meet the Chicago ex patriot now living in Denver who doesn't notice the considerable difference..spend a winter here in Denver than come back spewing your nonsense. FTR it's been in the 40's for daytime highs even as far South as Phoenix and Vegas. We have been hit with a severe cold artic front in this part of the country. Yes, it gets very cold here but nothing like mid-western winters..Fact not an opionion.

We hit sub zero temps like once or twice last year.
You guys do all the time.
Hardly all the time..typically one or two sub zero spells followed by 50-60 degrees
