I am asking about which cities have past rooted in negativity that ultimately lead to the current prosparity of the city.
Some things that can be considered as having a negative past are:
*A corrupt 1st mayor (For example, many don't realize the corrupt nature of Seattle's origin due to it's 1st mayor).
*History as a pirate's cove (There are Southern and Northwestern cities, like Tampa that have a history with Piracy)
*Origin based on slave trade (The term "Shanghai" comes from Portland's early history where people where kidnapped, shipped & sold to China as slaves).
*Origin based on prostitution
*Origin tied directly to mafia (Bugsy Siegel's Las Vegas)
*History of corrupt leaders
*Early history of extreme crime
*Haunted history
*etc...
If there is a city that is more fitting, but not in the poll, list it and tell why
My vote would go to Chicago...based on its political history and mob ties. Sure, a lot of big cities have had well-known issues with this...but Chicago is famous for it.

I believe the history of Chicago with the mob ties is interesting.
I vote for NOLA because of the disgusting cuisine to come from the city, the location being in a swamp and the major saying he wants to "make NOLA a chocolate city".

Cuisine, location, and an isolated statement by the mayor hardly constitute "negative history." The least you could have done is mention two major hurricanes that almost wiped the city out, but I guess that might have been a bit too logical?

All of those are most certainly negative history IMO. Those are three things I would feel shame if a citizen of NOLA. Yes, Katrina is logical. Therefore, why mention it? ......everyone already knows about it.
Every city has history to be ashamed of.
NY and Boston - Really upsets me sometimes how the Irish and Italians fought over territory as 1st generation Americans. I am irish and Italian and they are my two favorite countries in the world ourside of the U.S.

SF - Birth of the hippie movement
Miami - Drug Money
DC - Corruption from the government.
etc.
Pfffffft!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
You are so out of it..
