While no Piazza Novona it actually functions fairly well. It is lined by cafes/restaurants/Bars on the interior. Serves as a congregation point, place to relax, concerts, events, even nighttime showings of things like the Phillies on a large screen TV and a few times a year a simulcast of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Palmer Square is very cool, didnt even think of that
Boston that looks like a pic from the 60s, I don't remember it being like that.
I found another pic, it looks like roads are going right by them.

Why does it look larger in yours, did they build something over it...It doesn't look like a place to relax, have fun and congregate to me. It looks like a hideous government building.

This is under construction now to create a public space in front of city hall in Philadelphia; will be complete with a ice rink in the winter, cafe, newly redone subway and regional rail entrances and a tremndous view down Franklin Parkway (See Bajans images earlier and also Love Park; which seems to be some kind of mecca for skaterats)
I dig Logan Circle. Gorgeous ornate fountains there. I love how the Parkway has the art museum at one end and probably the best looking and most dignified city hall in the US at the other end with beautiful public spaces in between.
Yep. The Parkway is my favorite thing about the city. I've always felt it was the perfect area to install retail shops in an effort to have our own little Champs Elysee. I've never walked from the art museum all the way down to City Hall, but if the Parkway had shops, I'm certain I would.

Because thats from the other side Looking SW, not NE.
In the farther away picture from Garfieldian you can see Quincy Market next to it, which is a great space no doubt. I especially like the new green space provided by the big dig. Great re-use in Boston in this regard. That 60/70's architecture is dreadful; many remnants around the country, Boston is not alone in this regard.
