Dallas - 12, first triple murder since 2007 today, prior to 2007 city had a least one every year following 1990 (furthest year I can go back)
2011 - 10, year total = 147 (14 unfounded)
2010 - _5, year total = 157 (_9 unfounded)
2009 - 14, year total = 173 (_7 unfounded)
2008 - 12, year total = 181 (11 unfounded)
2007 - 14, year total = 225 (25 unfounded)
2006 - 19, year total = 201 (14 unfounded)
2005 - 16, year total = 212 (12 unfounded)
2004 - 18, year total = 264 (15 unfounded)
2003 - 14, year total = 245 (offense disposition not included for this year)
2002 - 18, year total = 203 (_7 unfounded)
2001 - 12, year total = 249 (_9 unfounded)
2000 - 26, year total = 231 (offense disposition not included for this year)
unfounded means that it was not counted as a murder, i.e. justified homicide, manslaughter, firearm accident, happened in another city ect.

One last night and one today, so going off what AllthewaytoMemphis said, we are now at 22, 27 days into the year. On track for 297 for the year, and that's a very unscientific way of calculating things- the cool weather generally means less murders.

23 allready? something drastic need to be done... How comes a 350k city has more than half the murder of a 34 millions peoples country (Canada)?
This is sad for the honest hard living peoples who are trapped in crosfire...
Do not tell me that the authority can't do nothing... Look at LA, Boston & New york city... They can do it... Or maybe not enough rich peoples in N.O since poor peoples don't realy matter

Exactly.

Many people totally over look things that are very important like - how does City A fight crime compared to City B, how does City A treat this crime compared to B, is this crime justified by law in City A compared to City B, City A has more crime reports then B is this because the local citizens are more likely to report it, or it is it because police have a more proactive approach to crime in City B, is City A more likely to work with their local agencies to fight crime then City B, ect.
Those are just six scenarios that would be very important, and
to get a complete comparison someone would need to do that across many different data sources.

Exactly again.

I never said you couldn't do anything. I said Philadelphia and LA are nothing alike, and I don't care how many times you've lived in either place.. they are still nothing alike.
And enough of this "Philly native" BS. I'm not some damn outsider. I grew up in a Philly area rowhome in a very urban place that is a 5-10 minute drive to Center City. Those "city boundaries" don't exist anymore either. Just ask the people getting stuck up in my old neighborhood by people who probably used to live in Philly.

I agree that no part of Cali or Texas is even close to as hard as Philly...
Matter a fact no part of the south or the west coast is even close besides new orleans...
Sure they got some stupid gangbanger's out there who kill each other over the color's red & blue but that makes them look stupid not hard...
It's 2012 stop making up excuses for how bad Philly is right now.
Just sounds stupid to compare Philly to Chicago or NYC from years ago.
It's 2012 stop talking about that past...(there is no context)
I respect your "Philly Pride" but just stop it....stop it....stop it...
Seriously why even bring up abortions like that had anything to do with Philly getting the the bad rep?
New Year, More Murders in Philly | NBC 10 Philadelphia
^Philly had 6 murders just on New Years eve, it sounds stupid to even bring up those abortions...
Seriously...
|
Well at least you got one part right.. that they're not as hard as Philly.
The rest though, is complete crap. First of all, you don't even live anywhere near Philadelphia. Wilmington is separated by quite a bit from Philadelphia. Secondly, nobody's making excuses. You're trying to talk some BS about Philadelphia and making us all look bad with your sensationalism.
Because they did. Those 8 abortions, some of which didn't even happen in 2011, changed the total from 316 to 324. Then you include domestic killings and other completely non-related to danger killings, and the number is even smaller.
What you are doing is insulting every person who either lived through the WORST years of this metro (which this past year was absolutely nothing close to) and the people who continue to make it better. That is NOT okay. I am sick and tired of the BS, of people judging Philadelphia by BS standards, of all of it.
It is NOT okay to provide INACCURATE and MISLEADING information on a site called CITY DATA.
And everybody else.. ignore the Canadians posting in this thread. They don't have a clue.

Yes, it is. I explained it in the post below.

Like the one that I grew up in.
