NYC population is overinflated by 2-3 M people imo.
NJ counties of Mercer,Hunterdon,Sussex,Warren have no business being in NYC's metro. Even more egregious are the Pa counties and counties in NE Ct.
Mercer and Southeast Connecticut counties are in NYC CSA and do not count in the 19 million population. Warren county (Lehigh Valley) is not in NYC MSA or CSA, it is in Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton MSA. The only PA county attributed to NYC is Pike county, which is the fastest growing county in Pennsylvania with a growth of 24%.
Don't you love how people are so scared of change that there is a need to keep repeating that you don't necessarily think this will come true. Its funny to me that they would think that you would not know that.
People are so scared of change that they act like Pennsylvania hasn't since the 1980's. If you wanna hear some exquisite ignorance, just wait until the Pennsylvania primary comes around, and listen to what all the "pundits" have to say. You might even hear James Carville's quip from 20 years ago (as in 20 ****ing years ago) recycled ad nauseum.

The one about Alabama being between Pittsburgh and Philly?
If we hit 19 million now, we will be very close to hitting 20 million by the 2020 census.
Interestingly, the NYC Metro is adding residents at a greater absolute number than the State of NY. I'd be interested to see the components of the metro's growth among NY, CT and NJ to better understand. Is the lion's share of the growth of the metro really happening in NJ and CT or is upstate bleeding people to an extent that it's mitigating the growth of the metro?

This isn't from the Census...this is actually FAR less scientific.
