It's a close call for between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA for me (I spent Labor Day weekend in both). At the end of the day, though, I have to say Savannah...there's more openness there (Charlestonians are notoriously snooty about their heritage), and those public squares are gorgeous and provide a welcome respite from the heat (something Charleston doesn't have).
BTW, there are some other beautiful Low Country communities worth checking out...Georgetown, Beaufort, McClellanville and Bluffton, to name a few.
NOLA because 1. There's no place like home. 2. Lots of history. 3. Lots of interesting people. 4. Mardi Gras. 5. Food (I should have put that one first). 6. Music. 7. Art. Ok, I'll stop here, but I could go on forever. Savannah would be my 2nd choice.
Everything that Drouzin said. Whenever I leave NOLA calls me back.

If you were visiting N.O. as a tourist you probably wouldn't even notice anything happened.

Savannah also doesn't have King Street or the Battery. But the squares of Savannah are indeed a really nice touch.
Wilmington is probably my favorite of the four...it's a little less touristy than Savannah or Charleston, less "spoiled" by development, a little smaller, and not as often discussed or as well known - but just as beautiful and historic.
A closer runner-up for me is Savannah. The architecture of Savannah really sets it apart...very much like a smaller New Orleans, or a larger French Quarter...but without so much trash and violence. Savannah has a similar "weird" flavor to New Orleans, with many strange characters and quirky places.
Which of the four Southern U.S. cities do you like (or love) the most: Charleston, Wilmington, Savannah, or New Orleans? Why do you prefer this city over the others?
Charleston is my first choice, while Wilmington comes in a close second. Both cities are great and their proximity to the ocean is another factor too.
Wilmington is not bad but I wouldn't compare it to Charleston and the others. In terms of allure and architectural distinction, I would say that Charleston and Savannah are close but I would give it to Chuck Town. However NOLA trumps them all.
Charleston and Savannah are absolutely beautiful, but New Orleans is a CITY.
So are the other Charleston, Savannah, and Wilmington. NOLA is just a significantly larger one.
