Philly has some nice designs on the table. I really like this one. Will this actually get built?

It's been on hold. Funding is there, the developers are just waiting for the Real Estate Market to bounce back. There is only a approx. 4% vacancy rate in residential units in Center City...so we desperately need the development.

Oh and I 100% agree that Chicago wins this hands down. Just wanted to show off some of Philly's residential high rises . Philly def has a large margin lead over Boston though in the Residential Highrise market.

It depends if were comparing to just Miami then yes Chicago still has more but if compared to the rest of South Florida then no. The SFLA (South Florida) highrise condo skyline along the water is nearly 60 miles long (Miami to North Palm Beach). However, if we include all buildings (both residential and office) then Chicago has way more then all of SFLA combined.

I was thinking Miami-Dade County vs Chicago Metro so no Broward and no Palm Beach.

There's a pretty good number of residential high rises in downtown miami and just scattered around the county too in places like Coral Gables, Doral, Fountainebleu, Dadeland. Im thinking for residential its probably about even between Chicago and Miami.

We should stop here though before the thread gets even more off topic

From the latest count I found there were a little over 1,200 highrises in Chicago. I saw an article last week that stated that 700 residential highrises were required to beef up fire security after a 2004 law regarding buildings built in 1975 or earlier. Almost 200 highrises have been demolished in the city, most of them the projects that were all brought down during the past 10 years. Around 180,000 people had to move out of those projects, and scattered around the city, suburbs and other states.

There were 167 highrises of over 12 floors built since 1999 (after the city took the 90's off from building). There are currently 12 buildings under construction, and then 80 "planned", which could mean anything from prep work to just received financing to a pipe dream.

I know the 2000's were a huge boom for residential housing downtown, obviously as the city nears the 200th residential building built in the past 13 years. Most of them going up now are apartment as opposed to condo, and I've read in the news about 4-5 that are getting ready to kick off.

That's for 1999 through 2012.

There were a total of 36 office/hotel/hospital highrises built during the 2000's. So a grand total of 301 highrises built since 1999.

Actually I like it as well and would do well in this location.

Was just about to break ground and halted. Not sure it will be built but would be a nice addition. Two others that were basically at the same place when this was put on hold are now under construction so will see.

Personally my gut says maybe a 33% it is actually built

There will probably be a new design that gets built if anything.
