All right, tell me I'm way off track. However, The Gateway Arch is one of the coolest and one of my favorite "buildings" on Earth! One has to stand at the base, go inside, and behold the city from its observation deck to appreciate this building. The view from the interstate is also VERY nice. Wake up St. Louis, represent!
The same can be said about the Pyramid in Memphis. Its view from the interstate, that is.

Some of my favorites in my lil' ole town.
1) Ayers Hall- probably the most symbolic building on the UT campus.

3) John C Hodges Library UT campus- one of my favorites, reminds me of that old game Q-Bert, LOL.

5)Marriott Downtown

6)Neyland Stadium- Not gonna post pictures because I'm not sure a football stadium is fair play here. But in a town of 180K, a stadium with 100k+ capacity does hold rank here atleast. But it's arguably the biggest structure in the city and WITHOUT DOUBT the most recognizable. You can't see it from the interstate as you drive through downtown as it sits in a little valley. But when you drive or walk up to it, it's a freaking monster. Without a doubt an influential landmark in this city and state.
Sorry I posted so many links, I'm not sure how to post the actual picture as some have. But I tried to post some nice pics in my links since I'm making you work hard to view them LOL.
Being that we are in the Bible Belt, there are some epic churches/cathedrals around here. But I don't feel like posting all those links. If I find out how to post actual pictures and not links I will do so.

It's not part of the skyline, but I'm a big fan of the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables:
I just like Mediterranean revival in general.
Edit: I replaced the original photo with one I took to avoid any potential copyright infringement. It's not a great picture, since I used my cell phone.

Here's the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. It's the largest Catholic Church building in America. It's different from and somewhat underrated compared to the more popular buildings in the city:
