The delusion is strong with this one.

CA has plenty of great cities of 100,000+, but dude...so does the northeast. Did you suddenly forget about NYC, Philly, Boston, Providence, etc?
CA has lots of cities with a high quality of life, as does the northeast. And both places have relatively crappy cities too. For CA, there's Stockton, Fresno, San Bernardino, etc, which are not exactly places to brag about.

No offense, but many areas of Upstate NY are economically depressed, so economic wise I don't think Pennsylvania would gain much from NY other than some nature and NYC.

Niagara Falls is freakin' amazing, and so are the Finger Lakes. And the Jersey Shore has recently become very famous (for better and for worse) and is a huge draw for tourists, along with Atlantic City.
That's without regard for the complete urbanity of the proposed Northeastern State, which IMO trumps almost any singular city in California.

I don't know. I think those three mixed together would be a little more expansive for the East Coast. I hate saying this but it's true, CA is the best state overall in America but NYC is the greatest State. So with that said it doesn't matter if you combine NJ, NY, PA together they wouldn't be able to beat CA as a whole.
Those three states would boast much better education than CA, more residents, more buildings, and etc but because all the main cities (besides Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Rochester) would be clustered together it leaves that giant state as a whole pretty lonely. Yeah CA has a large gap also but with two major areas for cities (the bay area & southern California), better coast line, mountains, agriculture and etc it would still be better in my opinion. Now if your talking city vs city it's a different story.

brah, the only reason there's a city data forum is for the northeast haters to voice their opinion
have you see the country west of PA (including PA)?

It says a lot that you'd have to combine a bunch of states to even think about competing with California.

Not every state also takes up 60% of a coast, and only 2 states are larger. It's merely just luck dating from the 19th century of why California's superlatives are the way they are.
It's impressive that California has caught up with all 3 states combined in a short period of time, but the size element is still a real world reality.
IMO, states are meaningless nowadays given that the Federal Government is taking more and more power from the state, which can only help the Northeast.

That's a dumb question and the answer would still probably be NO.

NoCal if it were a state would be a fantastic comparison for Pennsylvania.
SF/SJ/Oak vs Philly metro
Sacramento vs Pittsburgh
California is the best state but it's thanks to NorCal and the scenery
