Yeah, New England adds a whole 'nother dimension of awesome (and I mean that sincerely), adding the biotech industry and some of the best universities in the US.
Ultimately, I would still choose CA personally - I mean, I chose CA over Boston and NYC in real life...

And you act as if there are no great universities in the NY/NJ/PA area (Columbia, Penn, Princeton, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr etc.) or Biotech (biotech is not limited to the Bay, SD, and Boston as an FYI)
In terms of Life Sciences in total which includes all aspects including Biotech and research the two top centers are Boston and Philadelphia in the US
Though agree the addition does add more great schools and aspects like Biotech to your point, I think with New England the land area is still considerably smaller
I will say the Mid Atlantic and Cali are personally my two favorite areas of the country so neither would be that bad to me personally
And preference is just that; but correct for whoever is making the choice

Why do people take the time out of their day to bash New Jersey? SERIOUSLY?
Its right next to New York and Pennsylvania and it flows perfectly from NY or PA into NJ. There's more in common than different out there, seriously

Whats laughable about all these "over stereotyped" places is that they're actually quite nice places to live and visit. New Jersey, Texas, Florida are all gems to the country. Seriously
