I think the size of D.C. has a little to do with it. If sections of P.G. county were part of the district the murders would be higher.

all cities go through certain outburst on crimes though. Idk though seems like Chicago is media friendly. I havnt seen the outburst of media attention for Philadelphia. Their crime rate also raised and i believe they have a higher murder per cap then chicago.

One thing that i was always curious was to how come media always report violent weekends in chicago?? Doesn't all cities have violent weekends?

Incorrect on the crime rate part... the crime rate is actually down this year as compared to last year. There are more murders this year then last year but overall crime is down. Might not sound like much, but overall crime in Philadelphia is down 4%

Chicago use to have like 500 murders inn 2008 or something its not like it's outta control any more than it once was stat wise I guess it's just going against the national trend as to why it's getting so much media attention. And philly usually does average a higher murder rate than Chicago amongst cities over 1million its usually philly with the highest rate.

This
Se and Ne DC combined with inner beltway PG still would boast one of highest rates if it was its own jurisdiction. But DC alone might be at 100 murders 16 per 100k which is cool but still high for a large city

I'm glad it's in the news because hopefully it will drive change. It is interesting though that this "out of control" that everyone is talking about is homicides that are on pace to be at levels we haven't seen in.....4 years. We're on pace to see levels that are around 20%-25% lower than what they were in the early 2000's and around 40% lower than the mid 90's.

It's a huge problem with the shootings and murders, but interesting that people are so doom and gloom when really it's just back at levels from around 4 years ago. I agree that it needs a solution! If anything at least it's pretty confined and not some city-wide crazy crime wave or anything.
