Actually, NYC has a large Cuban population, but it's just outside the city limits, in Union City and a couple of other areas in New Jersey.

if i am not mistaken there are over 50 million hispanics in the United States which probably more than half of that number are Mexicans and Central Americans being the second largest group.
so that said, Los Angeles is easily the capital of hispanic America, since half of the population of Los Angeles is hispanic(mostly Mexicans and Central Americans), therefore Los Angeles takes this one.
Los Angeles is not only Mexican and Central American as most people think. There is lots of Argentinian and Brazilian people in the Area, especially in Costa Mesa (part of Los Angeles Metro Area) where my parents live, as well there is many Mexicans and Central Americans

I'd throw Chicago in the mix because the Latino demographics of Chicago are the closest to mirroring the latino demographics of the U.S.

Have you been to NYC?
Over 80% of Hispanics in the LA area (of which there are 8 million) are Mexican, which is only one country out of 23 in Latin America.
The largest group of Hispanics in the NYC area (of which there are 4.5 million) are Puerto Rican, which only make up 30% of the Latino population.
Hell, even Miami area, there are only 2.2 million Latinos, of which 40% are Cuban.
American FactFinder
All LA's claim to fame are Mexicans and Central Americans, both of which are adequately represented in New York. Hell, there's even a Spanish accent based there: Nyuorican.
Even city to city, there are more Hispanics in the City of New York than there are in the City of Los Angeles:
http://www.city-data.com/city/New-York-New-York.html
http://www.city-data.com/city/Los-An...alifornia.html
New York Hispanic - 2,315,041 (27.6%)
Los Angeles Hispanic - 1,863,460 (48.6%)

Mexicans make up the largest ethnic group of Latinos at 31.9% of Los Angeles' population, followed by Salvadorans (6.0%), Guatemalans (3.6%), Hondurans (0.6%), Nicaraguans (0.4%), Puerto Rican (0.4%), Peruvians (0.4%), Cubans (0.4%), Colombians (0.3%), Argentines (0.2%), and Ecuadorians (0.2%).
that is City of Los Angeles

This is about influence not numbers. Miami has the greatest influence. Entertainment, political, business, commerce it's Miami.

How come when the topic was the capital of White America no one is eager to offer up New York--even though it's got the largest population of White Americans in the country by far as well? But when it's any other topic New York is supposedly the Asian/Hispanic/Black capital of the United States based on raw numbers...
Not to discount the huge diversity or cultural influence of New York, but a city like Miami has huge significance as far as being a hub for Latino culture and economic ties to South America and the Carribbean, even while the population will never surpass New York in raw numbers. As well as the fact that no where else feels like being in a Latin American city as much as Miami.
