Dallas has the strongest shopping culture because there in absolutely nothing else to do there. Why is Minneapolis winning this poll? MOA is a tacky, low to mid caliber mall that happens to be the largest in the country.

I definitely said LA...there are so many malls here, maybe even some famous ones. Although "enclosed" malls are little more common, there are many open-air places like the Americana (love it) and the Grove (ditto)....

Why do people hate those two so much?

I guess it's also the birthplace of the enclosed shopping mall, Southdale in Edina, and I believe others have been featured in motion pictures. I'm not sure how it compares with the Metroplex on a blow-by-blow basis. Also curious to know how NYC stacks up: obviously the shopping in Manhattan totally dominates, but I wonder if there are any big malls in outer parts of Queens, Statten, or Long Island, or is high street shopping too dominant even there?

Southern California by a long shot. LA is the epicentre of American consumerism, fashion, and glamor. Nowhere else comes close.

Queens Plaza is the biggest and busiest mall in the city itself, however, New Jersey has the biggest malls in the Tri-State area, and tax-free shopping to boot, so a lot of New Yorkers go there too. Garden State Plaza and Short Hills are the best malls in North Jersey to me.

I would agree. Just because MSP has the Mall of America, doesn't make it the mall capital. When I think shopping, MSP is not a place that comes to mind.
