Philadelphia's Main Line, Lower Old York, the Media Area, Swarthmore-Wallingford in PA, along with Moorestown, Collingswood, and the Haddons in South Jersey. Also included are individual boroughs and cities like New Hope, Jenkintown, Conshohocken, Phoenixville, West Chester, etc.

I like a lot of the North Jersey "streetcar suburbs" in Bergen and Essex Counties as well. Same goes for Westchester and parts of Western Long Island.

Bethesda/Chevy Chase and Arlington/Alexandria in Greater DC.

Pittsburgh has some good ones like Dormont/Mt. Lebanon, the Sewickleys, Edgewood, and most of the Fox Chapel Area.

The Princeton Area counts as a suburb of Trenton.

Ventnor/Margate/Longport on Absecon Island, plus Northfield/Linwood/Somers Point on the Atlantic City Mainland.

Newton/Brookline/Cambridge in Boston (and undoubtedly others, but those are the only ones I'm familiar with).

As far as the nation's best suburbs go, I'd say that among the major players, it goes New York, Chicago, Philly, and Boston in roughly that order (though after NYC it's a fairly close call between the next three). These suburban areas abound with character and offer far more than the typical strip mall/big box store/cul de sac combo.

I'm not sure about New York, but Boston has great suburbs atleast the ones near the city, Revere, Salem, Winthrop, Watertown, Sommerville, etc. the best thing about a lot of Boston's suburbs are that a good amount are served by the T, have small yet walkable downtowns, nice well kept old houses with mature landscaping, really they are just nice overall.
