donjuan, Thank you and have a nice day. I'm happy in Chi-town and that's all that matters.

Enjoy LA!

Your claim that Chicago is shrinking holds no truth. The CITY is shrinking, but at a very slow rate, as many people likewise move in at the same time.
donjuan is right. He's not talking about the metro area. He's talking about the city itself. Chicago's population has been slowly and steadily declining since it reached its peak in 1950.

And I acknowledged that he was right. About the city itself.

The metropolitan area, which is considered part of Chicago, is growing at a fast rate, similar, but not as fast as LA.

The city of Chicago, according to census.gov, gained over 100,000 people between 1990 and 2000.

Your claim that Chicago has been steadily declining since it's peak in 1950 is untrue!!!

Don't take me wrong. I'm not offended about you dissing Chicago, I'm merely correcting bs facts that you two are posting about the city. I already have corrected bs misconceptions of LA on this thread posted by others.

Los Angeles has a crappy quality of life. I looked at real estate there and wasn't surprised to find a single wide mobile home going for $275,000. What doyou get after that? You live 20 miles away from the city and it takes you over 2 hours to actually get there. Then what do you get? An overcrowded, polluted beach. Then what? A dirty ass restaurant that couldn't pass a US Health Department exam if their life depended on it.

In Chicago, you can get a nice 1 bedroom apartment in The Loop for $1,000 a month within walking distance from work, world-class cuisine, bars, clubs, public transportation.

Kanye west is from chicago and him and his wife left and is now living in LA. Hue Hefner another chicagoan makes millions and flee chicago to live in LA where he loves so much. facts is facts. when you get rich you come to LA.
And you're judging a city's greatness based on population growth? Your comments are blank. They're worthless, they mean nothing. So Dallas is greater than Chicago because it's growing faster?

Your claim that Chicago is shrinking holds no truth. The CITY is shrinking, but at a very slow rate, as many people likewise move in at the same time.

Chicago's metropolitan area is growing at a rate of 4.4% since the year 2000 as of 2006. People that leave the city go to the suburbs of Chicago. They don't leave the actual metropolitan area.

Even though the CITY of New York gained population, the metropolitan area is growing very slowly compared to other cities. Los Angeles is growing very fast due to various reasons: immigration from other countries, illegal aliens, immigration from other states, higher birthrates from minorities than other cities, etc.

You need to take a sociology class or at least stop looking at the world in such a black and white way. An increase or decrease in population doesn't necessarily mean tons of people are moving out or in.

I agree with you 100% that LA is growing mainly bcuz of the immigrates/illegal aliens. The fact is chicago is losing its population as you can see from the many websites that is posting it.

The last time Chicago actually gained population, it was 1950 and the late Richard J. Daley wasn't even mayor yet. Last week Hizzoner's eldest son, Richard M. Daley, basked in the glow of new Census figures showing the city with a net gain of 112,000 people in the past...

Donnie, nobody cares how fast LA is growing. In terms of greatness, LA will never exceed Chicago. Not in a million years.
