Because in many ways the Cuban/Latin American/Caribbean immigrant culture in Miami is the mainstream culture. 60% of South Florida's foreign born population and 70% of South Florida's Hispanic population is concentrated in Miami-Dade County. Here's a chart of all the neighborhoods/cities/places in Dade County that are 50%+ foreign-born, added together there are 1,393,870 people living in such communities (56% of Dade County's total population).

Default Source?

[quote=Huge Foodie 215;24473703]Let's compare Hispanic populations:

San Francisco Bay Area Latinos: 1,797,078

Puerto Rican 43,164
Cuban 11,742

Where do these numbers come from? Just checked the 2010 Bay Area census, the Puerto Rican and Cuban populations differ greatly from those cited above.

South Florida (notably Miami and Ft. Lauderdale) are more international, and I voted for them overall. Bay Area is probably more diverse though.
