There is no winner of the best skyline. They all are winners as long as they change and add to their skyline. For those of us that have traveled to these cities and can recall their signature buildings by memory, to have any new buildings added to the skyline is amazing. I think the plans for San Fran. and NYC are awesome. Both of those complexes they have planned will revitalize those cities for generations to come. Because both cities have had their tradgedies in the past. And to have those sparkling new creations shining over the cities, it will produce a whole new vibe to the cities as well. NYC and San Fran our both port cities, and their importance to our coastal value in this nation are beyond words. When we think of these great cities we envision them as timeless entities of our imagination. So I think that these cities in 2020 will have a foothold for our children to live a completely different reality than what we expierenced. And that will be a new way of living in the metropolitan areas of America. San Fran. ans NYC are the goal setters of our country. They are the front runners of commerce, and class. They set the trends, and we all follow. So the Transbay and One World Trade projects are only the beginning of what will eventually spread to the rest of the cities of America.

I agree that NYC and SF are really the only two cities that really exhibit cosmopolitain urban living throughout the city. There are many cities that have some aspects of cosmopolitain living but not usually city-wide. You may argue that Portland and/or Seattle are on track for cities on a different size scale. They seem pretty chique' (is that the word?) to me.

Chicagos skyline is beast new york skyline is beast but chicagos skyline is more lets say "even out" its strait and anyways the buildings that are old may be hidden but thats historical every year theres new skyscrapers being built or planned so it may tower over the historical ones but there not DEMOLISHED. i mean i live in chicagos John Hancock center too.
new york is an amazing metropolis. it doesn't look as good as chicago though. cities like atlanta, dallas, and miami are booming. unlike ny and chicago these sunbelt cities have way more room to grow. ny and chicago are loosing residents. miami is the largest financial center in the country and atlanta is home to the largest amount of fortune 500 companies. by 2020 atlanta should be the size of LA. i can see atlanta, dallas, and miami (philly and sf as well) having amazing skylines that could give ny and chicago a run for their money
