First time poster here, and I've been trying to do some research but so far I'm at odds and would like some real world input.
A little backstory: I'm a 26 year old single gay male. I've lived in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Providence, eastern PA, central NJ, and most recently Atlanta. None of these cities seem to fit what I'm looking for, that being; a good economy, affordable cost of living, nice weather (originally from New England and I don't want to ever own a snow shovel again), etc. I'm also trying to find a decent place that's gay friendly, and more specifically prone to relationships as opposed to one night stands. For example, Atlanta and Seattle are very much "one night stand" cities, while LA and San Diego are very superficial places. I recently saw a study that ranked Richmond as the best city for single gay males looking for relationships, while Seattle was the best for those seeking casual sex. I own a car so mass transit isn't something that's especially important to me. I am outdoorsy, however, and I do enjoy going out bar hopping and whatnot.
So far it seems like Austin is my best bet. Looking for input, though!
Richmond isn't terrible per say, but definitely not West Coast-level on gay-friendliness. There is much of the conservative and traditional southern culture to the majority of the people there. Richmond has a solid nightlife and great bar-scene. Its a nice sized city in proportion to its metro size. Of the cities listed, I would say to check Austin based off of word of mouth.
I would say Austin or Raleigh (Chapel Hill is right next door and very gay friendly) and both those cities are huge college towns. Charlotte is also nice so not a bad bet. As previously said I also would put Richmond last. It's not as nice looking as the others and also kinda political.
Richmond is not as nice looking??? Is this because it has historic urban neighborhoods unlike any of the other cities mentioned?
Lol, you're completely wrong. Obviously you haven't been to the other cities mentioned.
