I imagine Nashville has the best musicians and probably the best instructors, which is seems like you're looking for. LA too, both have lots of recording studios and tons and tons of session musicians who are at the top of their game as far as excellence/skill on their instrument. Austin's music scene is all about the live music and is much more unofficial feeling...very little focus on recording or having top musicians.
Nashville seems like it would be more specific to certain Genres. Austin is a bit overblown IMO, LA is probably more comercial, has more producers/bigwigs that sort of thing. I depends on what type of music.
I am obvously biased but I'll say Nashville. ALL of the singers I regularly listen to are either country or contemporary Christian which are both heavily centered around Nashville. Austin has a country scene but this sounds bad but I'm more into the major label kind of country than the indie kind though I do like more traditional stuff like Randy Travis and Kenny Rogers. Los Angeles is good if you like rap or pop.
I don't like most country, but just about none of the music from Austin tickles my fancy. Just because Austin has lots of music doesn't mean its the best. Walmart is the biggest retailer but sells a whole lotta crap. McDonalds is the biggest fast food chain in the world.. do I need to explain more?
