The thing about DC in relation to the other cities listed here, is that it's more rapidly changing than each. Like in all honesty DC feels more sophiscated today than it did last winter, and last year, let alone 10, 20, or 40 years ago.
Being a capital city is a huge plus/advantage too. I'm assuming it's changing more rapidly because of this.
This is not emulation. Was NYC the first city to invent park signs in the US? Or did I miss the memo?
Nor does this have to do with sophistication....BTW DC has already caught up to the likes of Philly/Boston and easily no worse than same tier. SF is next and then you know who's heels we'll be on after that .
The thing about DC is that it's more or less trying to become what cities like Boston already were. It's been playing catch up for the last four decades.
I tend to agree. Boston is more established and its sophistication feels more organic at this point.

Funny I was just there last week and didn't tend to feel that way, I was primarily and Cambridge, but am familiar with the city to some degree and have been there before.
What I'm saying is its most definitely sophisticated, but I didn't notice a gap from coming up from DC. Whereas if I were to go to lets say Pittsburgh from DC or vice versa, you wouldn't notice a blatant difference.

It's not a significant gap, but for me, a big reason for Boston edging out DC here is that it just feels more established and historic--which it actually is.

DC Parks and Recreation copied the color scheme, font, the white boundary, and most notably the leaf. It was a clear imitation of NYC Parks and Recreation.
Philly ahead of DC. Please. I've lived in DC and Philly. No comparison. The JFK center for the performing arts vs the Kimmel Center. Seriously? Philly is dead last. I know that Philly has these hometown boosters that have moved all over the country and pine for the city, but it ain't all that. Once you move here you will notice that almost every person here to a man was born and raised here. No one moves here except for a very few due to job or spouse reasons.
Wouldn't be a Philly post without an ATL poster spreading hate on the city.
