I love Tampa's historic districts, but Charlotte has some pretty great architecture on it's skyline.
I just think you have to consider architectural variety here. No doubt the highrise architecture in Charlotte is great, but there's not enough historic stuff to give it enough variety IMO--at least in the core.

Unless one is only into the new, shiny office highrises, I can't see how Charlotte wins on architecture, especially since it razed so many historic buildings in the urban core. Tampa has some pretty distinctive architectural gems:

Tampa Bay Hotel (pretty rare to see Moorish architecture in America)

Ybor City

Tampa City Hall

Museum of Science and Industry

Although it's more subjective, I think Tampa takes the edge for recreation, being a coastal city.
I'm into the "new, shiny office highrises"... which is why I said Charlotte. Yes, Tampa has done well as preserving historic buildings, but then again, so has Charlotte.

Also, the NC Music Factory.

Although Tampa does have more historic buildings, the architecture of Charlotte's highrises takes over Tampa's.
So this is how I see it. In terms of old architecture, Tampa. In terms of new architecture, Charlotte.

I believe Charlotte is part of the "New South". I don't think Tampa is part of the "New South".

No, it hasn't, and you'd hardly get an objective Charlottean to agree with this. Is there still some historic stuff around? Of course; no city has destroyed all of its historic stuff. But waaaayyyy too much was razed, in some cases just for a parking lot. Maybe you're just unfamiliar with Charlotte's history in this regard.

Tampa is south of the south.

I've spent a lot of time in Charlotte and can honestly say that it blows Tampa away in just about every category, especially in quality of life, weather, economy. Tampa's a giant run down strip mall filled with unintelligent lowlifes aimlessly wandering through their days. I wouldn't necessarily pick Charlotte as a potential future home but compared to here it's no contest. The only things I will miss about Tampa are the winters, how laid back it (generally) is, and cuban sandwiches.

Charlotte and Tampa are pretty close in all categories except economy. Charlotte doesn't blow it out of the water. You're just tired and disgruntled with where you live. I've been on C-D long enough to know how the game goes.

Or that's their opinion, which is most likely it.

Which is why I had to interject the fact that CLT doesn't blow Tampa out of the water. On C-D, people have a knack of presenting their personal opinion based on how they feel about a place at that very moment as fact. He provided his personal opinion and I provided mine.

You also corrected him as if he was wrong in some way.
