South America is a hell of a lot closer than most are making it out to be, 1/2 of South America is Brazil which Boston crushes Miami in recognizion as bad as Miami does to Boston in the rest of SA.
Huh???!!! I can't imagine how one can claim this statement, but it is inherently untrue given the fact that Miami is far more visited by Brazilians than Boston... a fact I'm sure with a little research can verified. Miami is unquestionably the hemispheric gateway with Brazil. Any claim to the contrary is fantasy given the given Miami's dominant position in relation to finance, trade, and travel connections with Brazil that are been increasingly strengthened because of its unique geographic, social, and economic positioning which continue to be exploited. For Brazilians, a cursory stop in Miami is more often than not on the itinerary. They shop and visit relatives here. Much of the foreign tourism for Miami and Florida is now dependent on Brazil during our traditional slower summer period, so much so that it is a recognized rite of passage, and almost a pilgrimage, for Brazilians who have the means to visit during summer here their vacation. This is an empirical observation, but I'm sure it holds up to analysis. What kind of data would lead you to think differently?

I recognize Boston is one of the top cities in the US for Brazilian immigrants, but don't think saying Boston absolutely CRUSHES Miami is an exaggeration?

Boston has the largest Brazillian Population outside Brazil in the world, as well as the largert Portugese speaking population in North America
i have never once met anyone who was a native speaker of portuguese in metropolitan Boston, outside of somerville.
I know a lot, most of them speak english too, in face the Portugese speaking population in MA is larger than the French/Creole speaking population of Louisiana.
Massachusetts has the 2nd largest Portuguese population in the US. 2nd to CA. Florida is in the top 10 for Portuguese also. But the Brazilian population seems to be pretty tight between MA and FL.

well the french speaking population of Vermont is higher in % than louisiana. louisianas french-ousity is hyped up a bit in my opinion.
