As the title reads:
I'll leave it to you to form the two camps (cities for the two groups) but basically we're comparing two sets of cities. One set that invented things and by things I'm leaving no cut offs for what. The other set of cities that didn't particularly invent those things but popularized throughout.
There is no barometer, it can be things invented & popularized even a couple of hundred years ago- as long as it correlates to any of the cities that we will be comparing.

Modern day graffiti started in Philly with Cornbread but was popularized in NYC during the early days of hip hop in the 70's.
LA probably popularizes more then it produces but I wonder if the same can be said for NYC. I feel like NYC, up until about '95, produced a lot arts wise.
