Chicago's isn't the largest of public libraries in the nation, let alone the world. It beats Houston, though, with almost 6 million volumes, not 2 million. But that honor goes to Boston. The Boston Public Library has over 15 million volumes. ALA | ALA Library Fact Sheet 22 - The Nation's Largest Libraries (broken link)
well i do apologize for the misinformation i posted for the library.
Houstonians have already shown the signs that the city can become a great public transit city. We have only 7.5 miles of rail but the second highest ridership per track mile in the nation....that says alot. After the expansion of 40 miles or so is in place I cant even imagine how Houston will change. They are already talking of an even greater expansion after seeing the popularity of the light rail, I have even heard that the in the Uptown area they are building a subway instead of light rail. After the proper infrastructer is in place I see Houston easily stretching the "big 3" of our nation to the "big 4".
probably not chicago has a greatness to it
but houston will surpass chicago in crime if houston does not stop using itself as a safety valve for NO social problems.

Chicago is a great city.....Houston is slowly approaching it in terms of international significance. Houston has a the 2nd highest number of foreign consulates in the Country. With the current worldwide credit crisis you can see how many major world economies have become so interconnected. Diversity is the answer to the future of our great country....and Houston has that by all means. With the current plans for the future of the city...in 10 years I see Houston becoming a dynamic metropolis that can compete with the best in the world.

im sure in a decade or two it will be able to compete
population does play a major role, but you can have a smaller city, with a world class skyline, and i suppose houston could have a major influence on the economy like chicago does, if you get some big corporations to call houston home to their buildings thats what seperates it from NYC, CHICAGO
L.A. is on the map thanks to hollywood

Houston already has big corporations that call H-town home. 2nd highest number of fortune 500 companies....only trailing NYC. Our skyline is the third largest in the country after CHI and NYC. 6 million people is enough size to be considered a world heavyweight....look at Toronto(5.5 million), Sydney (4.4 million), Singapore(4.5 mill), Hong Kong(6.8 mill). All that is missing in Houston is an extensive public transit...which by the way is under construction. By 2020 we will have the Big Four (NYC, Chi, LA, Hou).

hopefully you guys will have better transit then chicago
in order to go from one side of the city to the other you have to meet in the middle (downtown) to transfer to another line and continue

Houston is actually doing the same thing. Washington DC has the same type of system as Chicago which is the hub and spoke system. It has it's advantages. But it also has it's disadvantages in that it is annoying. Both Chicago and Houston have excellent bus systems though.
