You do that....on the whole would you honestly say that politicians aren't smarter than average? I think that's ridiculous personally. Even though politicians are ridiculous people themselves at times (Michelle Bachman is a prime example), I wouldn't go so far as to not consider them intelligent people.
It really isn't worth speaking your mind on these forums sometimes....it would have been easier to "fluff up" the list than offer my perspective!
They're definitely smarter than average. Even "dumb" George W. Bush has an IQ in the 120 range. That doesn't change the fact that his (and many other politicians') legacies derive much more from preexisting connections and family name than actual elbow grease on their own ends.
It's important to remember that the average person really isn't all that smart.
You know, politicians are only a tiny fraction of the DC workforce. A huge chunk of the population in DC works for the federal government, or works on influencing the federal government. My bias is that these folks have to be smarter than the politicians, because they are trying to move the politicians to do what they want. These are the people who make up the huge white collar population of metro DC. They are workers "by brain" not "by hand", regardless of whether they are angels (unlikely), struggling humans, or devils (unlikely). I happen to think that the ratio of manipulation to real value on Wall Street is extremely high, but the Wall Streeters are workers by brain.
It creates a different kind of city from one that primarily makes things or transports things.

I disagree. It's all about mutually beneficial deal-making, which very seldom successfully involves mere trickery.
Here is an article examining the percentage of college graduates in city centers and in suburbs. A lot of the same cities that have been discussed in this thread make appearances.

I'm not thinking of Presidents and Governors only, but also the analysts that assist them. Those people that I've met or heard of seem pretty intelligent to me!
I find it EXTREMELY difficult to believe that the boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx or Staten Island are teeming with tons of graduates. But perhaps the "Manhattanization" of NYC has really spread out well beyond Manhattan alone!

No these are the main cores - probably better stated as DT and sorrounding areas. This would not include BK or Queens etc.

Oh, then I totally believe that figure!
