Which City has the better and more famous Beaches. Global Cities for sure, But not known Firstly or Primarily for their beach culture even though they both have beaches. I Must Say, Chicago with pictures of its beaches in nearly every shot of it's Downtown along Lake Michigan seem more obvious and Famous. That said, I still know people in the South who never been to Chicago, didn't even know/believe Chicago even had Beaches to begin with! (They're not on city data to say the least lol). As A Non New Yorker, they only NYC Beach I can tell you about is Coney Island. Why Aren't these Cities' Beaches More Famous. If You are a New Yorker, Tell Us About The Main New York City Beaches .

Thaat said Which City has the Better and More Famous Beaches Chicago or New York

-Better Beaches
-More Famous Beaches
- Most Swimmable Beaches (ie warm water etc)

Coney Island and Rockaway Beach are better beaches, but they’re far-removed from the City’s core. In over 20 years of living in New York, I can count the number of times I visited a city beach, on one hand. Chicago beaches win on location, alone

Chicago has the best beaches that are easily accessible for the city residents, and the boating is great.

If you expand New York to include Long Island, then New York.

I'm a big fan of Chicago's Lake Michigan beaches. What an asset to the city.

It also depends on what you are looking for in a beach. Chicago has a very urban, core beach that is easily accessible to downtown Chicago.

NY's beaches are not easily accessible as they are in the outer boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island) and most tourists do not know how to get there, and it is not an easy ride TBH.

What I like better about the NYC beaches are that they are on an ocean, instead of a lake. If you surf or play in waves, then there really is no comparison.

Some of us prefer the lake...it looks like an ocean, without the threat of sharks. Honestly, to me, that's big.

Agree! and no salt water to burn your eyes. Fresh water rules! and if you're going outside of NYC to compare, then you also have to include the Indiana/Michigan dunes, which are an hour from Chicago. >

This is a really Great Post/Point and gives you a lot to think about for World Class Cities like NY and CHI! Could it be they are so big the Beaches are the last thing on a persons mind when it comes to cities like this... Not to mention their geographic locations in the NE and Midwest!
