It really depends on your preference. From what I understand, Tex-Mex focuses on meats, cheeses and sauces (heavier) while Cali-Mex deals more on fresh ingredients and such grilled over fried (healthier).
I can't comment on Texas, but in California, such controversies as whether to grill or steam a tortilla, or whether or not rice belongs in a burrito, can break out in a knifefight. And please, no San Diegans better come in here talking about putting french fries in a burrito

For one thing, you can drive from Los Angeles to San Diego in a day, so there is some similarity bertween the two owing to proximity.

Tex-Mex is the food of my homestate. With its Southern-meets-Frontier heartiness, there's no way I couldn't pick it. Mexican American soul food.

I've been stationed in El Paso for the past three years. Honestly there are a FEW spots where I can get good Mexican food. After that it's not that great. At least not as great as what I can find in LA and it's surroundings. Now, the best tacos I had were in Laredo, TX. But overall, I thought before and still feel that the best Mexican food city in the US is Los Angeles.

lmao the odds of posters actually eating at multiple Mexican restaurants in all 4 cities, at least enough to form an educated opinion on it are lets say, slim to ZERO.ZERO.
