Not gonna vote yet, because I know nothing about Charlotte.

As for Austin:
- Climate: spring, summer, fall = ranges between mildly hot and OMG this is ridiculous; winter = mild to cold
- Food: Austin has a large mix of cuisine styles, top notch restaurants
- Cost of Living: Austin is more expensive than most Texas cities, but much less than the US average
- Schools: UT nationally recognized. I'm pretty sure Austin beats Charlotte here.
- Economy: as with all of Texas, Austin's economy is fine. Dell is headquartered in Austin, but they're not doing well right now. Whole Foods and Morninstar are also in Austin.
- Pro Sports, Stadiums: if you want to watch pro sports, you're gonna have to go to the big 3 cities in Texas or a Buffalo Wild Wings. UT Austin is known all over the US, great at pretty much all sports. Plus huge rivalry games with other Big 12 schools.

This is a tough one as I really like both cities. All other things equal though I would probably choose Austin. Both cities have experienced tremendous booms but Austin has a little more cultural amenities and has not been as affected by the recession as Charlotte has.

Cost of Living - Both cities have about the same of cost of living
Schools- Definitely Austin
Economy, Major Companies - Austin, without a doubt
Neighborhoods - Austin
Pro Sports, Stadiums - As much as I despise CLT, Gotta give this one to Charlotte.
Arts - Austin
Food- Definitely Austin
Scenery - Austin Wins.

Climate = both terrible
Scenery = charlotte
Food = tie
Arts = austin, i love live music
Architecture = skylines... Charlotte
Food = Austin. I love me some texmex
Cost of living = Charlotte

Thats it for me. Charlotte has so many things going for it now, but the arts/music and overall culture would sway my Austin vote.

I'd like to learn more about Charlotte before voting. What are the interesting neighborhoods and sites there? What are some interesting events and festivals? What are some of the lauded local eats?

I'm going to vote for Charlotte because I live here. But we will probably get rolled in this one. Austin has a ton of buzz around it nationwide with it's festivals and music scene. Charlotte needs to be an underdog again.

I would say Austin,..but I like a city with Pro Sports,..it brings a certain excitment to a city with that said special shout out to my MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES who are gonna take down Oklahoma City Thunder this year yaaaaay! but back to the point Only because Charlotte boost Pro sports would I vote for Charlotte in this case...

The original poster said "UT Austin is known all over the US,".....uhh I guess, its not really a Big Deal outside of Texas just like the University of Memphis or UT Knox is not a big deal outside of Tennessee
