I used to go out to eat in 'little Saigon' in Westminster and sometimes visit my friends in Garden Grove, they were 2nd generation from Korea. I think if you enjoy asian culture OC is great. I think what turns some people off to OC is the suburban sprawl.
Not me, I love the suburban areas. Im from Torrance originally and its not even slightly urban. I currently live in Plano, Tx which is almost exactly like Torrance. I love the ethnic diversity, the quiet, and the safety.

Thats cool, I remember Torrance back in the 80's when it was even more suburban, I liked to go down to Rodondo Beach. I think I probably like the harbor area of LA county a little better than OC.

OK I guess OC is diverse, but it is not as integrated as cities like NYC or DC. There seem to be White neighborhoods, Asian neighborhoods, Latino neighborhoods, nothing really integrated. The more expensive areas are predominantly White. But I seriously doubt that the nation's 3rd biggest city, Chicago, is less diverse than the suburban sprawl of Orange County.

Orange County neighborhoods are pretty integrated in my experience, at least compared to Los Angeles. And I hear that Chicago is much more segregated than Los Angeles. I'm not sure what you have against OC, maybe politics, but it's extremely diverse compared to almost anywhere else in the US. Like someone said earlier, there just aren't many black people but that's changing slowly.
I wouldn't really recommend either place unless you're a republican, they're both rather conservative. OC is also not very diverse, and is very expensive.

Actually, with a few exception, the OC is way more integrated than DC or Chicago of which the later is segregated to the max! I've lived in Chicago, DC, and OC and you see way more cultural mixing in Orange County than Chicago or DC. I cannot comment on NYC because I've never lived there.
Chicago takes segregation to an extreme and DC isn't far behind.
By DC I mean the DC Area (Maryland and NoVa suburbs). Sorry, should've been clearer. I do agree about Chicago.
