I know the city center of both is not desirable.. but what about the surrounding areas? Thoughts?

Not really a fair comparison. Reading, PA is a satellite city and is part of the greater Philadelphia CSA. So obviously Reading, PA wins this.

Why would it not be a fair comparison, I wonder? Richmond is larger, I know. But it is within 2 hours of DC. So, would that be considered a satellite city? It's the capital, too.

A metropolis of 7 million vs. a metropolis of 1 million. I'm sorry but Richmond doesn't stand a chance in this comparison.

I'm curious... why would a more populated area make for a better suburbs? And... have you ever been to Reading or the surrounding areas or Richmond and the surrounding areas?
