If we're talking 47 contiguous miles of area in isolation from what's around it, Los Angeles. Otherwise, Hudson County.

Pretty tough comparison. Los Angeles has several large areas that are more urban than Hudson County, and even more, even larger areas that are less urban.

Hudson County (NJ) is denser than the numbers suggest since much of it is marshland. Its weighted density is similar to San Francisco. I doubt the densest 30 square miles of both would that different in density. Some views of the densest sections:

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=hobok...47.92,,0,-6.76

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=hobok...1.44,,0,-11.88

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=hobok...9.83,,0,-14.74

Its downtown is a bit less cohesive than an older city, due to being relatively new for the area. A bit of a silly comparison, though.

I think what you want to say is that Los Angeles has several areas that are more urban than *some parts* of Hudson County. Perhaps. Hudson County also has some of the densest communities in the country that are more urban than anything available in Southern California.

I agree Fitz! Let's not forget how great The Hudson County transit is either with light rail, ferries and PATH is 24 Hours.

The obsession with California continues! It's flattering really.

Nei, if you cut Los Angeles off at 635,000 people (Hudson County's population), is it safe to say that L.A. would have the higher weighted density?
