Most of both of these cities are not gentrified.

Los Angeles, most of the time it's a different story. Old buildings are torn down, replaced with strip malls, it's all about celebrities, gangster rap changed hip hop, good or bad, you decide, but I feel that it did taint it. People stuck in their cars 24/7, people are spoiled, people are more materialistic, people are fake.

Now, on this, I'm just going on about media perception. But it isn't too far from the truth. I live in L.A., and really, the real soul comes from the neighborhoods, no not hipster areas, but places like I grew up. We know the stories on every street corner, and we do know that in these neighborhoods, there are real people. But we're not focused on.

I see movies about life in NYC, life of ordinary people, but life in Los Angeles is mostly rich folks, or west siders. Mostly showing people in their cars rather than people out of their cars. Most people don't even know their own city, don't know their downtown buildings, or even know that there is a subway.
@Chicano3000X,

A native Los Angelino for you to state here about the REAL difference & soul of NYC vs. LA. I'll text you, "MAD PROPS" on your analysis b/c unfortunately not too many Angelinos travel out of their city, state, or world for that matter. Sorry, but Las Vegas doesn't count b/c of the mass influx LA folks to visit or work there.

Just curious? Have you lived, visited, or worked in NYC? I assume you did. Since you were able to create this topic.

Helen Keller can hear & see that someone, who grew up or lived in an area for quite a long time particularly in LA. However, you didn't observe a tourist's/traveler's pov about how to drive around LA to be miserable & unpleasant. This is what bloggers, who are not from LA to comment constructively on this topic.

Trust me, I was an ex-Angelino & now I live in NYC. If LA wants to be a world class city then it must expand & improve on its public transit in order for people to get around places. How sad for LA as the 2nd largest US metro city not to be very efficient.

Anyway, "which city has more soul NYC or LA?" I definitely choose NYC all the way baby. How bloggers commented here. NYC vs LA is like "APPLES vs ORANGES" literally by those statements. NYC is a very dynamic place with lots of character, culture, entertainment, music, theater, etc. LA is nice, but NYC is awesome!
LA already is a world-class city. An Alpha one at that. I think that LA is better. NYC is nice but people there are too rude, rushed and arrogant. Angelenos tend to be more proud of their city than New Yorkers, as a recent study found.

LA has the 3rd highest GDP in the world, after Tokyo and NYC, and CA is the richest state in the USA. You might wanna do some research before being rude and attacking me for not blindly worshiping NYC like most everyone on this site.

Negative Mr. HI Five O,

FYI,

LA is ranked 16th highest GDP in the world & 2nd highest GDP (unfortunately it should be CHI) in the nation. NYC (Alpha++) & CHI (Alpha+) is ranked in the top 10 global cities. Yes, CA is unfortunately the richest state in the US, but not for very long due to its economic blunders into chaos. CA spends waste less money on its so-called BS socialist programs: welfare, free college tuition for illegals, money for drug abusers to buy crack or heroin, and the list goes on. TX is technically the richest state of the Union. Since TX is taking most of CA's businesses to be relocated into the Lone Star State. You kind of wonder why?

Oh please, you really need to do some ACTUALLY research on economic rankings of major cities in the country & globe.

Here are the links:

Oh my, did I hurt your feelings? I was rude & attacking you so blindly to put you into a hospital? Better yet, for you to go & talk to a shrink? "Unbelievable" - Andrew Dice Clay. I respect your POV for you to favor LA more than NYC (yeah okay & I guess LMAO). "Different strokes for different folks" - Prince on Justin Bieber & Miley Ray Cyrus.
