Hotel ranges and categories....

Best Location

Boutique
Large Resorts

Include links, descriptions, photos, stories of hotels you stayed in, videos, etc. Make it fun!

Can be a little more difficult as it's your home city and not as prone to staying there

Phoenix metro is full of resorts and a lot of times you can get decent deals to stay there in the summer - which I've done on a few occasions

My favorite resort I've stayed at is the Four Seasons - Troon. It's a bit away from the rest of the metro, but a stunning property with incredible service

The Biltmore is a historic resort with some Frank Lloyd Wright lineage. I turned down a chance to golf there this past weekend and have had a lot of conferences there as well.

Sanctuary is another favorite - great mountain location

On the boutique side The Clarendon is great - really good restaurant with happy hour and excellent drinks, plus they give you late night snacks at the front desk. Good access to the light rail and they'll give you a list of local non-chain places in the area

While visiting Seattle I've stayed at a few different places - to give the range I've stayed at the Moore, which was inexpensive, used an actual key to get into the room, nothing fancy but our room had a great view at a good location with a heavy metal performance in their ballroom one night
Welcome to Moore Hotel Downtown Seattle

I've also stayed at the fairmont olympic which is about the complete opposite - the kind of place where they lay out slippers by your bed on evening turndown

The St. Regis Atlanta

This is the one hotel I've been to in Atlanta (well, I've seen the public spaces anyway) that seems on a level with the ritziest hotels in NYC and Chicago. It has one of those classy, intimate bars similar to what you find in a hotel like the Waldorf Astoria in NY. I've read that the St. Regis is the hotel that visiting celebrities gravitate to now, instead of the nearby Ritz Carlton (in the Buckhead district north of Downtown).

Both this hotel and the Four Seasons in the Midtown area of Atlanta were listed among the top 20 hotels in the U.S. in a recent article (I think in Forbes magazine).

I hear the St. Regis does have some weekend deals that actually make it possible for people who aren't uber rich to stay there.

In New Mexico Santa Fe is definitely the best Hotel City. Most of them are boutique style and many do the local character quite well with adobe architecture and varied native tribal influences and colors.

Best Location - The La Fonda. Located right on Santa Fe Plaza it's a spirited hotel and does a really elaborate Christmas display during the holidays. Great rooftop lounge to watch the sunset.

Best boutique hotel with local character and ambiance - The Inn of the Anasazi. Very cozy and charming.

Large Resort: Bishops Lodge. Located on a ranch on the outskirts of town, good place for horseback riding, mountain biking, cultural activities, and R&R.

Honorable Mention: Hyatt Tamaya. Located between Santa Fe and Albuquerque on a beautiful setting with excellent mountain views, some of the best golf links in New Mexico, beautiful ambiance and lots of local characteristics and ranch activities.

The Joule in Dallas is hard to beat. With Traffic in the lobby shops (only Traffic store outside LA) and beside the downtown Neiman Marcus, it is kind of perfect.....
