Appalachians, Cascades, and Olympics. I like mountains with rainforest climates.

I am actually quite the fan of the Central Cascades. By that I mean the southern Cascades in Washington. I like them so much because they offer spectacular peaks, such as Mt. Rainer, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens etc, but they also are just completely and gorgeously forested, with little to no break in the trees. That is why I love them so much, plus the volcano vistas are fabulous. Anyways that's just my two cents.

I see the Olympics every day as Seattle is set up to view them...craggy, snow-capped (nearly year round), and laid out like a display right in front of us. Not very tall though.

But the Cascades are much taller. Rainier is 50 miles away but it dominates the horizon.

The Rockies are stubby. A 14,000-foot peak isn't very impressive when the plains are a mile high. Rainier is a similar height but you also see the bottom mile, where most of the mass is.

I've always found the Cascades and the Appalachians comparable in many ways.
