There were only 3 proposed projects off his 2014 list. Houston is booming from commericial to residential. Cranes are up all over the city and even in the burbs. Houston is still maturing and will be in a different league 15-20 years from now. I just think it's great that the US is climbing out of the recession and most cities are starting to build again.

In addition to the ones Maryland All Star posted in DC there is also the Walter Reed Redevelopment, which is simply MASSIVE, and will include a new embassy row next to it. They are not just building one or two buildings, they are building a new neighborhood in NW DC. As MD All star mentioned, many of these are single building projects. Some of DC's are much much larger than a single building project. The single building projects are so common here they are not even worth mentioning.

True -- many proposals do not make it to the construction phase. However, I think there's reason to believe that, in the post-Great Recession era that only more serious projects with much more financial feasibility are being proposed. Basically, I think we're seeing much less "speculative" construction across the country and much more that's dependent on pent-up demand.

Here is a transit project (well still in planning phases) but would link King of Prussia (The largest retail mall in Amercia yes more retail than MOA) and one of the largest suburban office complexes in the US via heavy rail.

Would be substantial really and provide for a lot of potential denser infill in the area.

Think transit development is also imprtant in the context of this thread

PlanPhilly | SEPTA considers at-grade, elevated King of Prussia rail

Do you think King of Prussia is trying to do what Tyson's is doing? Tyson's is going through the change because of the four metro stops that have been built there. Is that what they want to do with King of Prussia?

not as comprehensive of a plan but some similarities I suppose, would include multiple stops. Not as consistent with the infill - zoning and comprehensive planning here face more challenges. But could see many improvements - likely not the scale of Tysons though

Here's some of the big/bigger projects in Chicago right now:

Under Construction or site prep:

1. River Point | 730 ft
2. 111 W Wacker | 630 ft (topped out)
3. 435 N Park | 569 ft (closed to topped out)
4. AMLI River North | 543 ft (topped out)
5. Wolf Point West Tower | 525 ft
6. Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago | 480 ft
7. Summit on Lake | 477 ft (topped out)
8. Optima Center | 442 ft (topped out)
9. 845 N State | 410 ft
10. Northwestern Outpatient Center | 404 ft (topped out)
11. Arkadia Tower | 355 ft
12. Chicago & LaSalle | 35 stories
13. 212 W Illinois | 26 stories
14. Catalyst | 204 ft (topped out)
15. Halsted Flats | 15 stories
16. New City | 15 stories
17. City Hyde Park | 15 stories
18. 601 W Jackson | 15 stories

Developments most likely starting in 2014:
1. 150 N Riverside | ~700 ft
2. Marriott Marquis | ~600 ft (either starts construction this year or very early 2015)
3. 545 N McClurg | 481 ft
4. The Sinclair | 37 stories
5. Unknown Wells & Chestnut Tower | 35 stories
6. 1333 S Wabash | 28 stories
7. State & Elm | 25 stories
8. GEMS Academy Phase 2 | 240 ft
9. Vue53 | 13 stories

Recently completed:
1. 500 N Lake Shore Drive | 497 ft
2. Coast at Lake Shore East | 463 ft
3. Hubbard Place | 449 ft
4. K2 | 366 ft
5. Tri Hotel | 197 ft
6. The Godfrey | 183 ft
7. Harper Court | 172 ft
8. 1611 W Division | 146 ft
9. Hyatt McCormick Place North | 14 stories

There are others I'm forgetting that should be starting this year or may start this year. Always new proposals coming in too and ones that already exist that I'm sure of with their start dates. A few new 15 (I think) story buildings got approved for the Lincoln Park area last night as well. Big redevelopment of the old children's hospital. I'm guessing they will start construction this year.

There's also talks about redeveloping the entire former Cabrini Green site. They want 2400-2800 units on a 65 acre site which is probably around 40,000 people per sq mile. I'm guessing a number of high rises. If you go mid level that's probably another 8-12 for that small area alone.

Nice, this is gonna add to the already massive skyline.

A few of them already do.

* 435 N Park is very close to being topped out and kind of plugs a hole. --> http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/t...C3FDE9A2A2.jpg

* 111 W Wacker kind of extends the urban canyon along the river effect even more. --> https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1...o/P1390256.JPG

* River Point is being put in a part along the river where it was a big 1-2 blocks of real low rise. They have been building a 2 block long tunnel over a Metra (commuter rail) line the last few months. The top is going to be a park and these will also extend the riverwalk even more as they plan to have that around there too.

- Currently looks like this: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/P1400103.JPG
- Will look like this by the end: http://i44.tinypic.com/w6pp5c.jpg

* 150 N Riverside will be next to the above and will look like this --> http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...side/image.jpg

* Wolf Point has been owned by the Kennedys since the 1940s and was a huge parking lot. When all is said and done with, there's supposed to be a new 50 (building it now), 70, and 90 story buildings on the small section of land.

There's some other stuff on the horizon like a 31 story building in the West Loop that looks like it belongs more in Miami than Chicago and kind of extends/fills in the high rises west of the interstate. The Marriott Marquis is also going up near McCormick Place (along with another smaller tower). It will be the largest building by a ways in that area and will extend the skyline south even more. The building looks pretty cool too (http://imageshack.us/a/img801/4328/da7v.jpg). Also forgot that a 14 story building got the go ahead near the Grand blue line stop the other week. There are no high rises in this area really so it would extend the skyline even more.

A few things that I didn't mention:
1) There is a $100 million project for the riverwalk that just started construction which extends it for 6 blocks and adds new stuff. A little more retail/commercial space on the river too.

City Gets $100M Loan to Finance Riverwalk Project | NBC Chicago

2) The city is taking bids and plans to light up part of the river with ambient style lighting. They want to have a huge videoboard type of thing there too but I'm not buying that part of it:
Chicago's Riverwalk To Be The Next Times Square? - Mindboggling Reveals - Curbed Chicago

I just read a curbed comment from someone claiming to have made those renderings:
"I created these renderings for the design firm in charge and I just want to put it out there that we were being pushed to increase the intensity and contrast on these images to make the new elements stand out on the images. In reality, projection mapping on a large structure from across the river would appear much more subtle to the eye, they would only wish that it could appear that bright. Google or search YouTube for "3D projection mapping". A synthetic still image cannot do it justice. It is actually really cool and would not look like a " video wall ""
