Atlanta city gained a whopping 4 thousand people from 2000-2010. If anything that's what you can call stagnant lol.

And Philadelphia gained 10,000 in that same time. Lol.

Guess what though Philly...we're stagnant.

Mainly because of a bleeding black population. Philly only gained 9k and that's with a 1.5 million people city...3 times larger than Atlanta lol, but the difference is our MSA grew by over 1 million people.

Atlanta went from a sleepy town just 40 years ago to one of the nation's most powerful cities/metros and rising on a global scale. That's just 4 decades and that's with already established cities in the country. That's pretty incredible.

And as far as being a black capital, Atlanta was pretty instrumental in the civil rights movement and home to arguably the most influential black American in history-MLK. Philly has nothing on Atlanta's sizable middle class and black success. Blacks in Philly were/are mainly stuck in the hoods of North and South Philly along with Camden.

And Atlanta itself is only 450k population so it's not easy for having over 100k non-white/black residents considering it's the South, but we certainly have that outside of the city limits. Our Korean population alone reaches about 100k.
I really just swayed off topic a bit there. I was just proving a point that yes we do have history and it is some the best history so your claim every other town older is more important is so dumb. However for the 450th time what makes living in the ATL better compared to things Philadelphia offers its 1.1 million citizens who do not live in poverty? I am talking about day to day living not just stats about the economy which I am glad to see Atlanta is making a comeback.

So far based on estimates from 2010-2013, Philly city has grown a whopping 1.4%. Atlanta city has grown 6.6%....and that's just city population...let's not go into MSA growth. Raw growth, Atlanta has grown more, while being a much smaller city lol.

What does SLC have to do with the conversation? If I could move to Portland I would. But i'm in SLC. A fact that is irrelevant to the topic at hand. But it could be worse, I could be stuck in Atlanta.

Hmm, I wonder why Philly's growth is so slow then if walkability is truly what makes all cities attractive?

Yawn. Growth rates.

It's easier to have higher growth rate percentages when your city population is less 1/4 the size of Philadelphia's

Population Growth Estimates from 2010-2013
Atlanta- 27,562
Philadelphia - 27,159

Atlanta (city) QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau
Philadelphia (city) QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

...and historically, these estimates have underestimated Philadelphia while overestimating Atlanta. So we'll see when the 2020 census comes out.

At this rate... Philadelphia will continue to be 4 times larger than Atlanta.
