It isn't just about whats around Philadelphia either. I literally go to new places all the time in Philadelphia, and have been for a good while. You can have a great time in any of these 3 cities, however there is just so so so much more to eat, see, and do in Philadelphia. Admittedly I don't know too much about Portland. However I have been to Atlanta twice and it just doesn't do what Philly can. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably ate at the hotel restaurant when they visited.

Here is 21 neighborhoods to sink your teeth into.

Those are in just the main areas around the DT. Philly has numerous more neighborhoods worth checking out in the far northwest/northeast/more in south philly. You know what we would call a lot of Atlanta? The burbs.

Good example is the christmas season. A good city would have plenty to do for all ages:

As Atlanta does: Things to Do in Atlanta at Christmas

but if you really look through Philadelphia's Holiday Guide:

The Holidays in Philadelphia - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s & More in Philadelphia — visitphilly.com

Just a bigger and better city experience. Don't even get me started on actual culture things either..

Sorry if I missed it, but I feel like you never said why Atlanta was actually better.

It is always the hotels... lol.. Seriously one of the craziest things is our lack of hotel rooms here. There was just never a period of over building, so most of the hotels have good occupancy rates but there really isn't as many nice newer ones like there is in so many other places. There are a handful in the pipeline to be built including a 47 story SLS International, a luxury Hudson Hotel, another 52 story tower which will hold 2 hotels one being a W and the other a Element extended stay by the Westin Company.

We are experiencing a transformative building boom right now, and Atlanta is the 6th most gentrified city in the U.S. at the moment. Philadelphia is 23rd, between Colorado Springs and Albuquerque. A lot of this is being spurred by the BeltLine, which has been called the largest and most all-encompassing urban renewal project in the Country.

I don't really agree. Rowhouses are boring. Most of Philly is boring outside of Center City and a few neighborhoods that border it. It's just endless rowhouses and a lot of those rowhouses are boarded up, decrepit looking, etc. Philly is a more walkable no doubt, but a lot of city, most people don't have to desire to actually walk in.

But Atlanta does have rowhouse neighborhoods or neighborhoods with rowhouses in them....my photos...

It's a common circlejerk on city-data type forums that Atlanta is nothing but a downtown, and then some suburbs. I can assure you that's far from the truth. No one is saying it's at Philly or SF's level when it comes to walkability, but it's far better than what is being said on these forums.

So contradictory!

You say most of Philly is boring outside Center City... LOL... then post terribly mediocre boring neighborhoods in Atlanta. Those rowhomes aren't even half the quality of Philadelphia's rowhome architecture.

...and let's be realistic, Atlanta is mostly boring suburban sprawl. How is this any different than Philadelphia's suburbs?

It's a common circle jerk on this forum that outside of Center City Philadelphia is boarded up rowhomes... LOL!

Inside the city limits: Rittenhouse Square, Society Hill, Old City, Market East, Chinatown, Penn Center, Logan Square, Fitler Square, Washington Square West, Franklintown-Museum District, Spring Garden, Fairmount, Callowhill, Northern Liberties, Templetown, Graduate Hospital, Bella Vista, Queen Village, Hawthorne, Newbold, Passyunk Square, East Passyunk Crossing, Pennsport, Fishtown, Penn's Landing, Olde Kensington, University City, Powelton Village, Spruce Hill, Clark Park, Woodland Terrace, Cedar Park, Southwest Cedar Park, Squirrel Hill, Garden Court, Walnut Hill, Manayunk, East Falls, Germantown, West Mt. Airy, East Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill.

This isn't even getting to the Northeast part of the city which is still more built up than the majority of Atlanta LOL and we consider it a suburb.

Outside of the city limits: Wilmington, West Chester, Conshohocken, Camden, Upper Darby, Media, Newark, Dover, Kennet Square, Norristown, Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Pottstown, Reading, Doylestown, Jenkintown, Ekton, Middletown, Lansdale, Newtown, New Hope, Collingswood, Haddonfield, Burlington, Bridgeton, Vineland, Ventnor, Cape May, Margate, Stone Harbor, Avalon, Sea Isle City, Wildwood, Atlantic City

^^ all of these are more walkable or just as walkable as Atlanta and their suburban towns and small cities... LOL!

Take a look at some street views if you don't believe me:
