Breaded tenderloin sandwiches were huge in Iowa, and i LOVE them, get them all the time when I go back.
Otherwise I love the shrimp po boy's in NOLA and the lobster rolls. I think I've only had one or two italian beefs since I moved to Chicago, not really my thing. I've never in my life heard of a "mother in law sandwich". I even just asked coworkers and they all stared at me like "huh....?".

Yea I saw it on a couple Travel Channel shows in Chicago and have always thought it was one of the most ill-conceived food ideas ever. A tamale in a hotdog bun Gross.
California - turkey/bacon/avacodo on sourdough
and the bbq tri tip sandwich (my fav) basically bbq sliced sirloin on garlic butter toasted roll
Ah yes, the Tri Tip Sandwich is my favorite for sure, a Central Coast staple. Don't forget the salsa. The meat is sliced thicker than what you see on the Italian Beef or Philly Cheese Steak.
If we're including Canada, you'd have to give a nod to Quebec City's Sandwich du Hot Chicken and Toronto's Peameal Bacon Sandwich.
I've never had Sandwich du Hot Chicken, but the Peameal Bacon Sandwich, while good, does not contend with the smoked meat sandwich.
